I'm a Sonic collage artist and Music designer for Media!

Hi steem people!

My name is Julien Mier and I create my own music since 2005 from a wild amount of samples that I record or find in this world trough radio, vinyl and electronic processes. I'm a graduate from the HKU, the school of Music and Technology in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I'm highly interested in all art forms that are on the border of their discipline, especially whenever they collide in each other!

Collaborating with:

I work with a ton of talented and incredible animators, video directors and interaction designers over the world to create amazing audiovisual worlds. See the video by Kamiel Rongen for the music piece Sea Of Decay below or Divide, Multiply by the Japanese animator Keita Onishi. The last one in this post is by Koji Aramaki, coincidentally a student of Keita and a good friend of an animator I met in the Netherlands called Takuma Nakate!

Multimedia work

I love collaborating with interaction designers as well. I worked on several projects with @beervangeer - the one that got me on Steemit! We worked on a breathing app to control your heart pace, also out of necessity to escape the technology that sometimes anxiously surround us. The photo above is our interactive audiovisual piece that is performed by harpist Gwyneth Wentink. She played the piece I wrote for her harp while controlling her breathing to accelerate or slowing down the generative musical accompanying piece. watch it here

My applied work as a sound designer is to make audio branding/logo's and interface sounds for musea exhibits. I love creating things for children because I can make the difference in their lives. You can find my portfolio here in case you're interested: http://studio.julienmier.com

The modern artist

Image of DIY culture

I'm a huge fanatic of the DIY culture, micro financial initiatives and alternative media that encourages to sell your own art. For example Bandcamp, that is a more traditional outlet. Another excellent example is Flattr, a donation format styled website where you can fill up your wallet every month by a certain amount and then distribute that to your likes (for example if you only like one post that month, it receives 100% of your donation.) Also encouraging a lot to see how crypto currency is influencing our daily life and shapes our future. In my opinion the most democratic way of cashflow in the world instead of unrealistic bank investments and delusional financial structures. Very interested in seeing where Steemit will bring us and be a substantial counterweight of social media like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, where they keep the content the users create for themselves.

The music scene is rapidly changing

Image of Music Scene

That's what I think. Where end 90's and also begin of the zeroes, the charts were dominated by recordlabels like Warner, Emi and they kept tight control on the pay out to the artists, they become less and less important for having a substantial income. A lot of things changed, since we use computers, everyone can create art so the supply of quality music isn't only exclusive to those that could afford pricy studio hours. Nowadays, anyone that is motivated enough to hone a skill can become a successful crafter, which makes the demand and the quality gate much higher as well. Trough the mentioned media, unexpected popularity can rise (The Arctic Monkeys being picked up from MySpace.)

Say hello!

What I think is important is to keep in touch with each other, especially in these modern times where information and communication is always pacing and we have our nose in our screens.

We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we have less communication. (Dalai Lama)

Hi there and welcome on board! Being a music enthusiast myself - sometimes working with DJ sets and productions alongside glitch artists, and such - it's certainly going to be interesting to see how Steemit can help with such content creation.
