Hey I'm Jason - A middle school teacher / Part-time Heisenberg (Minus the Meth)

What's Up?

My name is Jason and I'm from Michigan. I am just about to embark on my seventh year teaching and love what I do. However, for any of you out there who have any experience knowing a teacher well, you will know that they don't get paid well for the job they do, especially when they are just starting out. Yeah yeah - I know we get a few months off in the summer too, but when you work 12+ hours/day for 9 months straight, that teaching career will end pretty quickly without some kind of break.

Yes - this is me, but at halloween - I don't really look like Slash...

So what about this Heisenberg nonsense?

Well - for those of you who have seen Breaking Bad, you know the story. For those of you who haven't - he's basically a HS Science teacher who gets cancer, has crappy insurance, and has to use is knowledge of crystallography to make and sell meth to pay for his treatments... but then he goes down the rabbit hole and loves the money he is making.

Well, that is kind of me. I had about $104,000 in student loan debt and it was suffocating. So I thought I'd try and do something about it. I turned to the internet. So, basically what I do now, and have been doing for a few years, is building profitable niche websites and earning commissions from what I sell. It is amazing. Along with making niche websites I also run the internet marketing for a number of small businesses around the country and that also is a lot of fun. Long story short - I'm making more online than I am in the job that cost 6 figures to get. I actually just in the last few weeks started working on my own free course on how to build websites from start to finish - the website where the course is is called Teacher Dimes - I mainly made it for teachers to use, but really anyone who finds it can use the information. It's just about ready, I'm just working on adding the last few videos to the course page.

So how about my free time?

I really am a homebody, staying in and hanging out with my wife (pictured below) is probably my favorite thing to do - I am simple :). Beyond that I love to play basketball and travel. Even though I am a homebody I really find it fascinating to travel to destinations that are naturally beautiful. It always amazes me when I get somewhere and am so belittled by the landscape - makes me feel so insignificant on this earth. I weirdly enjoy being humbled by nature.

Where Are My Favorite Places To Be?

I am just about to turn 30 in a couple weeks, so I've really only traveled in the past 10 years, but in that time I've really enjoyed...

  • St. Louis, MO (I know this isn't some exotic location - but of all the big cities I've been to, this is by far my favorite).
  • Jamaica - Went here for our honeymoon and stayed at a couples resort - that didn't stop us from getting out and really experiencing the culture though - an amazing island, amazing country, and even more amazing people - how they live with what they have is truly inspiring.
  • Asheville, NC - My wife and I love to hike and Asheville has hundreds of amazing trails that are easy to get to and fun to hike.
  • Jackson, WY - If you haven't been to Jackson, go. Grand Teton National Park is by far my favorite national park - the mountains are unbelievable, the hiking is unmatched, and the wildlife is insanely abundant. The picture below is my wife getting her yoga on after hiking about 7 miles - I think she's crazy... she works out after working out... I'd prefer a slice of pizza.

And of course I can't leave out my fur babies - They are a crazy couple pups. Lizzy is 5 and she is a yorkie-poodle mix - apparently they are called "yorkie-poo"s but I just can't handle that. Then Mowgli is a miniature Australian Shepherd. He is a goofball. The video below is them being crazy and playing - don't mind the mess on the deck - we were in the process of a bunch of construction and landscape work :) Also - if you do watch it - no, we haven't fixed the screen door - you will see why.

So that is it! I am sure there is more I could talk about, but I'll save those topics for later steeminess (it should be a word now, I think we can all agree on this).
