My Introductory Post
Hi everyone,
My name is Jason Russell, but most people called me Jack, hence my Gingerjack username. Not sure why it has taken me so long to find out about Steemit, maybe I'm not as with it as I used to be - I blame my age!!! From what I've seen so far it looks really cool and I'm very excited to start using it. Did take me a few days of research to actually get my head round the concept and I thought Bitcoin was complicated!!!
I'm from the UK and live in London (which I love) and work in IT. I know, I know, working in IT I should understand Bitcoin and Steemit better.
Probably my biggest love is wildlife and wildlife conservation. Three years ago I joined a wildlife conservation project in Costa Rica for three months and had the time of my life. I carried out numerous surveys on birds, otters, turtles, monkeys and insects. Probably my favourite part was the turtle conservation which involved walking along 2 beaches looking for turtle trails and nests. If we found any nests, we would carefully dig up the nests to find the eggs. Unfortunately turtle egg predation is a big problem and the eggs are often dug up and eaten by other mammals and also people. After we dug up the eggs, we would bring them back to the hatchery and rebury them and see if any hatchlings had hatched. When they did we would weigh and measure them and release them back into the sea which was the best bit. If anyone is interested I have a diary of my adventures in Costa Rica you can have a look at - http://www.travelark.org/travel-blog/bigred1/1.
If anyone has the chance to go to Costa Rica, I'd strongly advise you to do so. The wildlife, the scenery, beaches and people are just amazing.
The Costa Rica trip really got my travel bug going. Although I have travelled quite a bit in Europe, I haven't really seen much further afield. I hope to save up and take a year off to travel to places such as South America, Australia and South East Asia. Another of my passions is live music. I love going to festivals and going out in the evenings to see gigs. Although I've been to festivals such as Benicassim (amazing), Green Man & Field Day, I still haven't been to Glastonbury. That's another thing on my bucket list.
Working in IT naturally I'm into technology and I am a bit of a gadget freak. Although I'm still to be convinced I need an Alexa or Echo. Anything about science especially about space I find really interesting. Whenever I see videos about how big the Universe is and how small we are it still blows my mind.
In my spare time I love to socialise with my friends at gigs or in a bar or restaurant or go and see a film. I also like working out and exercising. I'm currently also trying to learn Spanish.
Looking forward to starting my Steemit journey, see you all soon.
Welcome! So cool about the turtles! That would really be a rewarding experience! :D
