EduBlock is a grassroots student network non-profit based in Puerto Rico. It began as a reaction to the influx of fin-tech companies and investors moving to the island. Without a doubt, the 2017 crypto-market bull run brought attention to blockchain technologies. Students, especially, were at the forefront of gathering as much knowledge on distributed ledger technologies as possible, recognizing their potential. Students all throughout Puerto Rico were coming together via cross-platform messaging services like Discord, Telegram, and WhatsApp looking for a place to talk about everything crypto related on the island as well as globally.

In order to create a bridge between these new fin-tech companies and students in the island, EduBlock was created. Our team is composed of professors, students and industry leading advisors, with a goal of teaching and contributing to rebuild our island using the most cutting edge technologies we have access to. With five chapters in development and three already established in the top Puerto Rican universities (these include the Mayaguez and Rio Piedras University of Puerto Rico system-wide campuses and the Metropolitan Interamerican University), we will be offering free workshops and conferences for students as well as internship and research and development programs in the blockchain sector that will help Puerto Rico succeed and stay competitive on the international scale.

There is currently a lot of misinformation about blockchain technologies and about the investors arriving to Puerto Rico. This is why we believe that the best way of communicating the possibilities of blockchain in the island is through educational institutions, students, and local business adoption. In this way we plan to help steer the narrative of the Puerto Rican blockchain community. We want to serve as a credible platform for industry leaders to get in contact with students, the island and vice-versa. We’ll also be a medium of news through blog posts, podcasts, videos and events.

Our kickoff event was hosted at the Interamerican University Metro, free of cost, during #RestartWeek and had a total of 12 speakers. Now we are currently working on organizing #RestartWeekWest and hosting our first hackathon in Mayaguez. Edublock is passionate about using this opportunity to improve not just our blockchain and fintech education, but the Puerto Rican education system as a whole. We are excited about this new transparent and trustless age of communication where incentives are aligned with the individual and one is able to take power of their own future. We can’t wait for what’s to come.

Special thanks to @virtualgrowth, @cybercodetwins, @erickpinos and @latamprofiles for all their help!

Hello! If any of your students (or the project overall) are involved in Open Source development, you should check out @utopian-io

Of course, what a great reminder. Will make a note to introduce them to @utopian-io platform. Jobs will no longer be outsourced, but will become open-sourced.

I'll be happy to help. I am the marketing manager at @utopian-io and I am currently working out onboarding processes to help out. So look me up on the discords and we'll see how we can collaborate.

Intelectual capital is the supreme resource in the Information Age

What Edublock is doing in Puerto Rico is an act of patriotism fueled by a desire to channel the immigration wave of online entrepreneurs towards their island’s well-being. This could only be done by educating the youth about the massive business potential that torrents towards Puerto Rico.

The crypto movement in Puerto Rico is only possible to thrive if it has a solid entrepreneurial basis composed of the intellectual and financial capitals (both local and foreign). Unfortunately, due to the Act 936 & Jone’s Act, the economy of Puerto Rico was not able to grow a strong “private sector”. This lead to the constant leak of the local talent to New York, Boston, Washington DC, and Silicon Valley.

Innitiatives ran by Edublock, Piloto 151, Parallel 18 and Colmena66 help build a bridge towards the Future Economy of Puerto Rico. Hopefully, their efforts will be able to turn the island into a Carribean Silicon Valley and motivate the Puerto Rican talent to come back home, a paradise island of Puerto Rico.

welcome to the magic that is steemit!

Hi Thank you for #introducingyourself. Im myself quite new in steemit community but I realized that there are few things you could do to have a better start:
Mostly I invested a little bit in STEEM in order to purchase STEEM POWER and STEEM DOLLARS. Why? Its simply important. Without initial investment it will be very hard for you to build reach here and be noticed.

Im not sure if you ever heard about this site:
http://steemd.com/@your_username
Example: https://goo.gl/3mquu1
Perhaps you know it already :)
If you will reply to this message (that would allow me to believe that we may develop mutual engagement and help each other) then I will follow you and upvote some of your future posts.
Cheers and good luck.
