Veterinarian looking to help pet owners, navigate vast and complicated space of veterinary medicne

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians!

About me

My name is Vuk Ignjić, i am a 30-year-old veterinarian from Serbia. You could say I was born into veterinary medicine, since my both parents are vets, and I've grown up running around our family veterinary practice and helping them with work since young age. My calling was clear to me when I was deciding which career to get to, I've graduated from College of Veterinary Medicine at University of Belgrade in 2013, since then I've done 3-year-long internship at the Teaching Hospital for Companion Animals at my Alma mater, where I've spend first half of it in clinical rotation covering every aspect of small animal veterinary medicine, and second half specializing in anesthesiology and critical care. Today I run our family practice, providing primary and preventative care for companion animals. My primary focus is on preventative care since there are a lot of diseases and conditions many of which are potentially fatal which can be avoided through adequate prevention.

I've cooperated with numerous animal welfare groups regarding stray animal care. Most prominent of which is Four Paws international, which had a disaster relief mission in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the great floods in Balkans in 2014. During this 6 weeks long mission we rescued stranded animals as well as provided food and medical assistance for both companion and farm animals that were affected by the floods.

Besides us humans, our house is a home to nine cats (some are up for adoption if you'd like a nice well mannered kitty ;) ), three dogs, three lizards, nine frogs, feisty Siamese  battle fish and number of carnivorous plants species. If you'd like to peak inside our jungle  you can follow us on Instagram @vets.cats.and.the.dog.

I spend most of my free time hiking and climbing mountains with my girlfriend (also a vet) and our 14-year-old dog.

Content I'm gonna produce

In my practice I have come to realize that navigating the vast and complicated space of veterinary products and services is very hard even for professionals and experienced pet owners. Last week I've tried to explain all the different products for tick and flee prevention and my mind boggled at the realization of how complicated must this landscape be for someone who doesn't have much experience in it. Researching this subject is hard for me let alone someone who doesn't have hundreds of veterinary books and websites nor the knowledge to separate the wheat from the chaff. So I decided to be your guy, I will research and try to make comprehensive guides for products, treatments, diseases and conditions so that you could make an informed decision or at least find more about treatment your pet needs to undergo. If you wish 1 minute video with all the answers, then I'm not your guy, if however you want to get good insight into why you should or shouldn't use particular product or treatment you've come to the right place. I was thinking about starting with tick and flea preventives and preventive treatments in general. I'm looking forward to the community suggesting topics I should write about, since I'm doing this for you, to help you be a better parent to your pet. I think I'll be able to produce a post at least once every two weeks, hopefully once a week, depending on my free time, and research needed for the topic, since I'll aim at quality not quantity. Hope you fellow Steemians will enjoy my work :)

And For the end, what you've all been waiting for, some kitties :)

Oh yeah, the dog is there too :)
