Hello Steemit! I remember the text-internet and now it's blockchain era!

My name is Oleg Somin aka badsmiley. I’m experienced business digitization consultant, designer, and web-producer. Founder and Jedi Grand Master at ITLine company. Open Networker. Happy father and lovely husband :)

Originally I'm from Moscow, Russia. But I moved to Vilnius, Lithuania in 2013 to take a deep breath of freedom, creativity, and fresh air.

Too short, yep? I read several „introduction post making guides“ at steemit and realized that there are no rules at all :) So let me tell you several things that could be interested.

Oh, btw. Verification :) It’s me.

Did you know the text-internet?

I’m web-addicted person. My life is somehow connected with the Network. The Internet as we know it now, looked different before 1996. At least in Russia, where I lived that time. There was no LAN connection or Wi-Fi spots. Only USRobotics modem connected via landline phone. And that familiar sound „shhzzz-beeep-zsshzzz-beep-trzshshsh…“

I, like many of my contemporaries, could determine the connection speed by sound. And if it was low-speed, then I dropped it and started calling again and again :)

What did I saw after success connection? A login screen to BBS - Bulletin Board System. One of the famous in Russia called White Bear BBS. There were tons of echo-groups with chats and files. Just imagine - you need to wait several minutes to download one big picture! Games and programs were packed into archives… OMG, I need to spend a full night to download the beta version of the Warcraft game!!

A little later, a window into the worldwide Internet appeared. Although it was also a text box. The next big thing was Netscape browser. Raise your hands, those who remember it!

And then a miracle happened! I was a publisher of the fanzine dedicated to the X-Files TV-series. And one of my virtual comrades Yri told me:

Why don’t you use HTML?

Quick self-studying and… voila – I made the first Russian fansite of The X-Files! BTW, it’s still alive but waiting for an upgrade before a move to my museum http://www.aha.ru/~somin/xfiles.htm (Russian only).

Time flew. I opened my studio, made a lot of websites to myself, friends and clients. Then my studio became a digital agency ITLine (http://consulting.itlinesolutions.com/ - it's English :) )… It could be an interesting story but later…

And now…

We are on the threshold of the greatest change in the nature of the Internet! Ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about the blockchain! I’m here, on steemit because here comes a pure, honest and absolutely fantastic era.

I am very glad that I am a part of steemit and a part of the blockchain era!

Hi Oleg :)

I just about remember dial-up internet! Pain in the ***

Your English is impeccable, what age did you learn and was it compulsory at school?

Hi and thanks for the compliment 'bout my English (I know that I'm not so good :) I learn it from the early ages with the songs of The Beatles. Then I learn it at the school (not special language school). Then I got much practice when I moved to Vilnius. But still, use Grammarly app to check me and correct some issues.

Thank you! Hope that my stories are interested :)

welcome. I think you are really going to like this community. You also seem much more knowledgeable about the web side of this site than most.

Thanks! I didn't feel myself so old :) But whet I'm looking back in times - OMG there was so many interesting things that my kids even couldn't understand. Maybe they don't need it?
