A Young FIlmmakers Life
Hi, my name is Sven Schulte (or AlphaAlias), I'm currently 18 years old and I think I might have some interesting stories to tell.
About five years ago, when I was 13, I started to be interested in filmmaking and photography. I got the Nikon D3100 for Christmas and nothing else, because that's all I asked my parents for (so that I could be sure to get it). I turned it on and immediately I realized that it wouldn't be so easy, the frame looked nothing like on TV, or in cinema. I wondered why and told myself I just had to learn "how to handle it properly". After checking out all I could find about camera movements and the cheapest tricks to get smooth shots I still wasn't happy with what I got, so I invested in a single Redhead Floodlight cause somebody on Youtube said "Light is everything"... Should probably have watched that video to the end because I didn't really end up being that good at lighting my settings.
Two years later I've had the first few pictures I was really proud of, I went and shot a few videos with my mates at school and held my presentations all in video-form. I was laughed at, called bad, critiqued and everything, but I was still proud about every single one of my bad videos because I knew that they didn't know how much work I put in them, which is why I wasn't really mad at any of my classmates
Just a year after that I really upped my quality and got my first professional assignment, by that point I had top-of-the -class sound equipment, a pretty ok LED Lighting Setup and boy did I know how to use it. I decided to help out our schools band and film their concert at a pretty big festival in my city. I got to know a band 7 years older than me called ZEITGEIST that wanted me to take pictures of their concert after filming my mates. A few weeks later ZEITGEIST contacted me and wanted to know if I'd like to film them. I was completely hyped to do so as it was my first own assignment by other people who seemed to like what I did.
And now? Well, now I'm responsible for the whole video production across the whole board of that same annual festival, producing videos for all 30 bands who play there and have contacts up to some pretty big companies in germany. I also just started my own filmproduction-company, because up to three weeks ago I never took any money for what I did. First month into the worklife and I - an 18 year old - have made my living for the month immediately.
Down there you can see a very recent picture from that same band from two years ago, the guys from ZEITGEIST and me, the long haired dude to the left, two years after we first met, and now were really close and I couldn't wish for anything more than for what I've got.
I'll post some videos but mainly pictures on my blog here on steemit, I'm new to this and english is only my second language, so please beware of grammar mistakes
