This is me introduceyourself...ing
Hello Steemit
I am new to this setup, and still getting my head around crypto-currency, so it may take some time before I’m settled using Steemit. It seems like an excellent concept with great foundations, and I’m glad to be joining the Steem community!
As this is my first article, it seems I need to introduce myself, and so here is a quick rundown on who I am, why I’ve joined Steemit, what I wish to write about and when I will be posting. I’ll try to keep it snappy!
Who?
Originally from Stoke-on-Trent in England, I am a final year undergraduate at the University of St Andrews, majoring in Modern History and International Relations. My honours years have seen me cover topics from colonialism to humanitarian intervention, but my interest in Asian politics in recent months has led to my dissertation on Chinese foreign policy, as well as writing on the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. As you might expect, many of my posts are likely to cover such issues.
Why?
At the time of writing, as far as I am aware, there currently exists no mainstream, widespread blogging platform, and Steemit appears to have all the components of such a website. Steemit’s combination of social media-style blogging with the newfound popularity of crypto-currency means it has great potential, and so blogging through this format seems a logical step.
In addition to this, Steemit currently is somewhat lacking in politics (particularly international relations and current affairs) when compared to a platform like Twitter, and so perhaps there is a gap in the market for someone like me.
I expect that one of my first posts will be on the relationship between crypto and government, as much of the work I have read on Steemit appears to come from a libertarian, free-market perspective, whereas I believe there needs to be found an in-between where crypto and governments can interact without the grinding we have seen in 2017. We shouldn’t allow technologies with as much potential as crypto-currencies to be banned by governments, and should instead find a way to bridge the differences between unregulated free-market economics, and the better world we are trying to build
What?
As I have mentioned, my interest generally is in politics, and my posts will cover much on issues such as European, Middle Eastern and Asian security. One of my first articles will cover the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, as this ethnic cleansing needs to be seen and challenged by as many people on as many platforms as possible. I may write an accompanying article on the potential for fundraising through Streemit and other cryptos to aid people stuck in such circumstances.
In addition, I have spent some time abroad in the last few years, and so the odd travel blog may crop up here and there. I also hope to try my hand at reviewing film/TV, and what better place to experiment than on Streemit!
When?
Generally, I aim to write on a political subject every other week, with other topics filling the gap from time to time. I am somewhat restricted by university work, but if Streemit turns out to be a success then of course content will increase.
And finally…
I should mention my brother @homes here as he got me into the whole crypto world. He knew about it before it blew up and I regret not heeding his advice to invest at the time. He also advised me against writing an introduceyourself blog, so this is me ignoring his advice once more.
All the best to you and yours truly etc.
P.s. Here’s my twitter and my instagram is aholmes96, so you know I’m real.
