Our Map Turtle, Nemo

About 7 years ago, while floating on our beloved Jacks Fork River, I spotted an injured baby map turtle. He was easy to pluck out of the water as a front flipper was partially torn off and he had a gash in his neck. He was going to be some predator's lunch!

I don't know how exactly he was injured. I took him home, cleaned his wounds with water and placed him in a clean tank. It seemed that if I had put any salve or ointment on his wounds, it would have washed off.

Nemo healed but by that time fall was giving way to winter and I knew he was not prepared to hibernate. So we kept him. That was 2010. Fast forward to now. Nemo is about 5 inches across. He is missing two claws/fingers on his right front leg. He also has a severe underbite. I believe this would keep him from being successful in the wild.

We feed Nemo floating turtle sticks as well as dried shrimp, krill, and mealworms.

Thanks for checking Nemo out. He is the most well-behaved pet we have! Haha!

Good look fellow. Thank you

I've always enjoyed have a turtle as a pet. I don't have any space for one right now, but I've kept them in the past
