Hey I'm Diego and I just found out about STEEM!

in #introducemyself8 years ago

Hello Steeeem!!! My name is Diego and I was born in Venezuela.

I'm living in Miami since April 2015 and before that I was living in Toronto. Before moving to Toronto I spent 4 years living in Curacao. The reason why I have moved so much (for a conservative guy like me) has a name, Hugo Chavez. But we'll get into that in another post.

I've never really been a fan of social media, I'm actually just realizing that this will be my first social media post ever and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm a cryptocurrency aficionado, I found about all of this a couple of months ago. Funny thing is that friend of mine came to me early this year talking about a new thing called Ethereum, which ran a blockchain that would change the world. My reaction was to think that my friend had gone mad and he got into another crazy internet scam. Well, some months later I have become my friend and people think that I've lost my mind. I think I'm not the only one and many of you have gone through the same.

I have average computer skills, so if I told you that I understood completely what is happening on the blockchain I would be lying. I'm a trader, so I spend most of my day trading cryptocurrencies. I shouldn't spend most of my day doing that because I have a job, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

I found out about STEEM two days ago when I was doing some research for Factom and thought that this is what social media should be all about, quality content and getting rewarded for it. STEEM got me, a person who doesn't spend any time in social media, to read over 30 posts and submitting a new post in just two days. I'm the mainstream person that didn't believe in this and was reluctant to even considering reading about it, but now understands and believes that this is the future and this is the only way to go.

The future is here and it is now our job to get it out there so we can get other people like me to join!

Well, that's the thing about cryptocurrencies.. It's like a virus, when you're normal, you'll see other infected people as zombies. but once you get infected yourself, you see that others now consider you a zombie.. :D :D :D
Nice to meet you.. :)

Welcome Diego. It seems like a lot of young people are managing to get out of Venezuela somehow. I would have thought the government would do everything it could to stop people, but apparently not.

Welcome to Steemit and good luck

I remember in 2006 when I was getting ready to leave, everything I had to take care of was done in a matter of 2-3 days. Somehow it was good for the government for the opposition to leave, that would give them better chances of winning upcoming elections. I went back in 2010 to get some other stuff ready before leaving to Canada and it took a little longer, but still, I was done in a week. Currently the situation has turned so bad, that it is very difficult for people to leave, they have no money and probably already spent their savings, even international flights are scarce and the ones you can find, are impossible to afford. In a way, a combination of government and worsening conditions have made it harder for people to leave the country. Still, I can notice here in Miami the amount of Venezuelans that keep coming every day, with nothing in their pockets but also nothing left to lose.

Welcome to the mad house! Cool personal pics BTW - well done! If you need any newbie assistance drop me a line in any of my posts ;-)
