in #introduce7 years ago

We have made it to Part 5 of our series about grapes. As we are learning it seems the best wine making grapes are grown in Europe.

This grape is used exclusively for making the famous Madeira Wine. Complexa grape is not a naturally occurring grape, but a hybrid variant which is made by cross breeding different varieties of grapes. This grape made from the cross of Tintinha and Castelao, which was further crossed with Muscat of Hamburg to form the Complexa grape got introduced to the Madeira region in the year 1970.

  1. Agua Santa Grapes is a variety of white wine grape grown in Galicia (northwest Spain), Moncao and Melgaco (northwest Portugal), where it is used to make varietal white wines.

The grape is grown across Central Europe, including Austria, Czech Republic (in particular southern Moravia where it is known as Frankovka), Germany, Slovakia (where it is known as Frankovka modrá), Croatia, Serbia (frankovka), Slovenia (known as modra wine regions including Sopron, Villány, Szekszárd, and Eger (where it is a major ingredient in the famous red wine blend known as Egri Bikavér (lit. Bull's Blood) having largely replaced the Kadarka grape).
