Turning point of US hegemony: withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021
The United States won World War I, World War II and the Cold War in succession, thus becoming the world's only superpower. And established an invincible hegemonic image, as if the United States is an unbeatable country.
The Afghan War that began in 2001 broke the myth of the United States' invincibility. Although the United States killed Bin Laden, it did not completely eliminate the Taliban, and there were many problems with the democratic transformation of Afghanistan. Afghanistan's economic development is still very slow, and the political situation continues to be turbulent.
The United States finally chose to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2021, and the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan. Therefore, it can be seen that the United States is not as powerful as imagined, and the democratic transformation promoted by the United States is not all successful. As a result, the hegemony of the United States has been severely hit by its withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is a turning point.
The consequences of this turning point are relatively serious. Not only did it build confidence for terrorists to defeat the United States, but it also strengthened the confidence of some authoritarian countries, such as Russia and Iran, to defeat the United States. It is probably a huge disaster for the global democratic camp.
