The Philharmonic Turntable Orchestra

The top 30 DJs from around the world formed the first ever orchestra, using only turntables and mixing consoles!

The Philharmonic Turntable Orchestra is the world's first orchestra consisting entirely of "turntables" (DJ CD players). DJ's work is far from easy, especially if it is in an orchestra. This orchestra consists of thirty top DJs from around the world, many of whom are DMC World Champions. According to one of the DJs, this video is the culmination of three hard days of intensive training. Each participant was given a vinyl record with a certain sample of the concert, thus spreading the melody over the voices and instruments.

The Philharmonic Turntable Orchestra is a perfect example of how strongly the art of DJing evolved, which is one of the main elements of hip-hop. Back in the 70s, when on the streets of the Bronx the pioneers of this case were just starting to sample, they were subjected to a torrent of ruthless criticism largely because of the lack of "real" tools. However, from now on, after forty years, "turntables" are by right the instruments recognized throughout the world.
