Against all odds, still reach for the stars.
There is hardly ever anyone who has never been disappointed at one point or the other especially when you have great confidence in the fact that things will go as planned. What then happens when it fails? When all your dreams come crashing on you? When you hope against hope for a contract to pull through and ot doesn't.
Every single day we hold on to certain kinds of expectations about ourselves, about others, about our dreams and about our circumstances. Whether we realize it or not, these expectations directly influence our lives. In fact, you always hold onto conscious and unconscious expectations in various situations. It becomes a belief which directly or indirectly guides your thinking or propel your actions.
The expectations you hold on to influence where your focus and attention goes. It motivates your every move and gives ypu a philosophy for life.As a result, these expectations become targets, or in other words plans for the future. In fact, these expectations directly influence what you WILL or WON’T attempt to do, and essentially what you BELIEVE is possible at any one moment in time. Moreover, your expectations influence your attitude, decisions, behaviors, perspectives, aspirations, views, dreams, well as your interactions with others.
In a nutshell, our expectations direct our lives in numerous ways. This is trite because we hold onto expectations that serve our greater good. However, for many people, this, unfortunately, isn’t the case. Often our expectations are flawed because they actually delete and distort our interpretations of reality to our detriment. Our dreams, goals and aspirations may be possible nut not attainable, realistic but not reachable and this is perculiar to each person. That is, what i can do, you may not be able to do it.
Humans and their capabilities are different. It is okay to reach for the sun and not gve up but when it seems that several trials have not yielded the requisite results, instead of giving up totally there is still room to reach for the moon and possibly the stars. When disappointed and heart broken over a failed expectation or goal, do not depair and remain low but try to keep on keeping on.
Remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Keep pushing, you never know....
I believe having a goal in life is what motivates me to do what I do. It is what directs my focus and attention. Expectations and goals are, imho, two different things although are related in the same manner as the chicken and egg roundabout question of which came first. If I set a goal, for example, of travelling to the Holy Land two years from now, I would definitely take the necessary steps to generate the funds in two years. After identifying the different courses of action I must take, then the expectations come in. Let's say I am a salesman. After determining how much I need for the travel, I find that I need to make 2 calls a day everyday for the next 2 years. Once I start doing this then the expectations come to fore as I will begin to monitor whether the steps I identified will be effective or not.
Just thinking out loud. I enjoyed reading the post.
