Free Markets Solve Discrimination

in #informationwar7 years ago (edited)

This might sound counter intuitive, free markets solve discrimination by allowing it. There are two types of discrimination: warranted and unwarranted.

Warranted

If an individual is rude, scares off other customers, destroys property, or steals. Then the business owner should have the right to kick them out. No one wants to do business with horrible people. If this individual can’t buy goods or services in area because they are the worse, then they will be forced leave and start over somewhere else. When they do they will have every incentive be a better person. If they refuse to change, then they are going to have a life of suffering and no community to belong to.

"Well what if this person has a mental illness you capitalist pig?" (Read with alpha bull dike condescending voice)

The answer is simple, people are generous when they are prosperous. Family members, friends, churches and charities will voluntarily help them. As someone who worked in retail, people with mental illness are not the worse. Entitled old people with all their mental faculties are.

Unwarranted

If the discrimination is unwarranted, then someone else will take their money. For example the LGBTQIA873#HQ (they keep adding letters its hard to keep track), trolls Christian bakeries in hopes they will refuse service just to sue and get 15mins of fame.

In a free market the Christian bakery would be allowed to discriminate. The bakery across the street would take LGBT…..'s business and profit from their competition's discrimination. If you had a bakery, wouldn’t you want sell them a cake 10x the non wedding price? Wedding cakes have huge profit margins and gay couples tend to have more disposable income.

The Colorado Bakery...
The Great Supreme Court Cake-Off...

New York is another example, before Uber and Lyft the taxis had a monopoly. Medallions went for up to a million dollars at one point. Black communities were neglected by the taxi industry because of their higher crime rates. Everyone was lumped into one category. Uber/Lyft rate customers individually and the ride sharing community more competitive. The Daily Wire has a good article on this.

The ride sharing community is devastating the taxi industry around the world due to competition. Customers win in competitive industries.

Down to Earth 1080p Taxi! Taxi! I'm black again!

There is another side effect of this, if one group of people is being discriminated against because of demographic crime rates, then the respectful law abiding in the group will work to resolve the community problems. If certain businesses are unfairly judging a community they will be put out of business by competition.

By allowing discrimination both businesses and the consumers are judged by their character. When people are judge by character they have an incentive to become better people.

Think about your good relationships in life. They all have one thing in common they are mutually beneficial. Free markets create mutually beneficial transactions between diverse groups of people bringing them together.

'Discrimination' has been falsely compared to 'unreasonable hostility', but that's exactly what it can bring about.

One could say that if you didn't discriminate against a hostile person or something of that sort, and you treated him the same (equally) with another who's nice, you'd be kind. But that's only a half truth. It leaves out that you would also not treat the nice person like he deserved (nicely). You'd most probably picky a middle road for both or maybe suppress your emotions so as to appear 'neutral'.

That can allow those who truly intend to harm to be treated 'nicely' and those who don't to be suspected or even be harmed for nothing.

In a perfect world all people would be judged based on the content of their character in a way that is 100% fair. In a imperfect way people still have reputations. Capitalism is just a system to manage resources among imperfect people based on the overall value they create for society.

People tend to have a basic level of respect when they meet a stranger based on first impressions. Then that level of respect increases or decreases as people get to know each other. This is the reason not everyone is best friends. If someone is hostile their reputation in the community will drop (over time) as people get to know them.

From a business point of view, most businesses just care that you have currency, be somewhat respectful and reasonable. As people interact with each other they tend to get a long more often than not. Free markets bring people together for economic reasons.
