Wow: that's quite the bibliography!
I don't want to be unwarrantedly optimistic, but there hope for the future because of the New Left being an essentially generational movement. It is true that only a small minority of Baby Boomers became New Leftists, but the New Left has been puff-pieced into being "representative" Boomers. The New Leftie movers and shakers are now elderly.
Thanks to @richq11 jogging my memory, I remembered a noteworthy wisecrack from P.J. O'Rourke's Parliament of Whores. He made the point that the original New Lefties had something going for them: they were cool. After looking over the second generation, the '60s-in-the-'80s cohort, he said that those folks were uncool. He said that the females looked like members of Future Secretaries of America.
As for the third generation, the SJWs, it'd be hard to exaggerate how much they're disliked. There's a whole cottage industry dedicated to taking down the SJWs.
Here's the point: the Boomer New Lefties have been like a dynamic businessman who became rich through his old efforts. The second and third generations are like his not-so-dynamic heirs. In a very real way, both the politically-correct cohort (2nd gen) and the SJW cohort (3rd gen) can't escape from the Boomer-Left's shadow.
That lead to a point well worth pondering: What will be the fate of the second and third generation when the first generation dies off? Or becomes too elderly to offer any more protection?
I could be naive, but I think we'll see a long slide downwards into insignificance for the New Left once the first generation loses its power.
Man I love that book, I've always tried to pattern my own snark after O'Ruorkes'
our biggest success will come after we drive them out of our institutions (esp media and education)
but there is always going to be a percentage of humanity that I would classify as do-gooders; socialism and other utopian schemes will always have a large % of support...
...moron looks at a pile of bodies from a death camp...that's not socialism
