It imposes the "Trochismo" (step on green roads) from La Parada

"San Antonio" is the proclamation that since Monday has been imposed from the border town of El Palotal.

And it is there where the means to survive are multiplied according to the binational circumstances of the moment, a trade, before a little clandestine, has gained momentum: the "trochismo".

This Monday the immigration control post was isolated by a perimeter fence around 200 meters, under the surveillance of the National Police.

Meanwhile in the place that in spite of its humble aspect of dusty farmhouse, has been denominated ironically the "Venezuelan Wall Street", because it became the indicator, and nefarious influence for some economists, of the national Forex.

With closed borders the traffic of people from one side to another has not stopped completely, although if you perceive a certain "loneliness" if you compare it with the boiling of Venezuelans who were on those sides of step, or decided to do their shopping of many products of the basic basket that not only they could not acquire in their country, but lately they have acquired them even more economic.

The "trochistas", having a strong competition, are already riding to the autobus units before they stop, to grab the client they offer their services for 30 thousand pesos, or rather to catch the unwary who is busy for returning to Venezuela, especially those who were taken by surprise by the decisions of the governments of the two countries, and were left in limbo. However, for that of supply and demand, others try to find better prices, however at their own risk because on the trails security is almost non-existent, and everything depends on the suitcases that they bring with them.

This weekend many people who simply passed the border to be part of Live Aid Venezuela concert, and / or wanted to join the efforts of the civil group in support of the entry of humanitarian aid from the USAID to our country, were stranded after the Venezuelan government took the decision of an absolute closure of borders. Little by little, the bewilderment has led to the quest to manage a safe return to their homeland, although for now the options are considered risky, because they involve trespassing wooded areas dominated by local residents.

It is said that at least 40 trails are enabled along the border by the North of Santander. The trocheros say that neither Colombian or Venezuelan security forces are bothering us, and that going through the green roads does not represent a major problem.

In front of one of the many exchange houses that operate there, a woman and two men with large suitcases said they came from Venezuela and that their intention was to go to Peru. Another man who traveled from San Cristóbal, dragging a wheelbarrow that will surely cram for products from the basic basket, said he had to get off at Capacho, continue on foot to a well-known bakery where travelers stop for San Antonio, and from there take a vehicle, until the next checkpoint, to continue on foot to the border, and added that as it is going to continue traveling because he has to take the bread to his family.
