The Legend of the Formation of Madura Island
Madura Island currently consists of four (4) districts, namely Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan and Sumenep regency, geographically entering the area of East Java, Indonesia.
Naming Madura has its own legend. The origin of naming Madura begins with the disposal of a princess, Raden Ayu Tunjung Sekar, because pregnant without a husband.
Confession to the king. Princess pregnant after dreaming of the full moon. However, the reason the princess is not trusted by the king. The princess also invited a patih to kill her.
Miracles happen. The sword that Patih used did not touch a bit to the daughter's body. Secretly, the king made a raft and told his daughter to run away.
At the full moon arrived, Raden Ayu Tunjung Sekar gave birth to a baby boy and was named Raden Segara (Raden Segoro). The name Segara (sagare), is the sea. After arriving on the ground, the newborn baby, was able to walk and even run.
Raden Ayu Tunjung Sekar finally found a big tree that contained a beehive. The miracle back to the princess. The bees leave the nest and give the daughter and her daughter a chance to drink their honey.
Princess finally gave the name Honey Ara-ara. That is, honey in the middle of a roomy. Which is abbreviated to the name of Madura.
Some residents of Madura, pelilisan (former) Raden Segara stopover is in the region of Sampang Regency, precisely in the forest Kera Nepa, Nepa Village, District Banyuwates. Currently, the place becomes one of the tourist destinations of Sampang Regency.
