NEW MUSIC VIDEO: jesse saint john - MOVE

in #indie7 years ago (edited)

Oh hell yeah. If there are two things I love its people stepping from out of the shadows and shooting their shot and the 90’s cult classic “Go”. Luckily, the music video for jesse saint john’s debut single “MOVE” combines both. It’s gonna be good day folks.

SJS, as the kids are sure to call him, honed his craft writing songs for the likes of Charli XCX, Britney Spears, and boy band OG’s New Kids On the Block. But old heads will remember that we already covered all of that in February. So let’s talk about this video.

For starters, it was shot in a single take in the garage from the best film of 1999, Go. The film is so great that I still own it on VHS despite never owning a VCR. It’s a prized possession and I’m never giving it up.

Anyways, it’s great and you should watch it. So is the video for “MOVE.” Check it out below then we’ll have words about it.

JESSE SAINT JOHN - MOVE

You don’t need 20 hits of ecstasy to enjoy this, but it probably couldn’t hurt. Much like the film, it is paying homage to, this video has a heavy 90’s alternative vibe. Which, for the uninitiated, means it looks like a cross between Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction. Here though there is only William Wolfe, or maybe the British Guy from Go who keeps getting handsy in the champagne room leading to that altercation with the stolen gun? Regardless of which iconic 90’s character you want jesse saint john to be, he certainly dances like John Travolta. His moves match the manic, kinetic energy of the song.

Another note this video perfectly hits is what the early internet used to look like. The feel and look here is unmistakable. This seems like the sort of thing you would have found on your dial-up connection in the late 90’s-early Aughts. Likewise, this is the sort of video you would see played in the dying days (though nobody knew it then) of MTV and VH1 as musical entities. A great throwback, flawlessly executed.

I will be watching this fantastic piece of pop art on loop for the rest of the week. Feel free to join me. You can hear the single “Move” on every platform under the sun. Seriously.
Be sure to follow jesse on Insta, Twitter, and all that jazz.
