Poem: From the life of a hamster.

DSC03846.png

One hamster of advanced years,
As it happened after a meal,
Decided to philosophize,
About what darkness is, about what light is.

He lay down in a comfortable bed,
He covered his stomach with a feather bed in shortage,
He closed his eyes, scratched his snout,
And began to think.

A good day is good at night,
After all, the hamster is well-fed,
What else can he dream of?
When there is grain in both cheeks!

He reasoned skillfully about darkness,
Brain and body are afraid of it,
When there is no asparagus in the garden,
And neither here nor there!

He saw many mousetraps,
And there was a cat there, though old, but clever,
They sprinkle poison on grain there,
In the hope that no one will survive.

And the light, it is sweet, like early spring,
When there is hunger in the stomach since winter,
And you throw a handful of grain,
Into your mouth and satisfy your hunger!

So the hamster reasoned for a short time,
Darkness covered the hamster's hole,
The dim candle went out,
The hamster's eyes closed.

Though he fell asleep, and come what may,
Will not affect him in any way,
Reasoning about darkness and light,
He will wait for that early spring.

I am not a hamster and I don’t know the thoughts of a hamster, but maybe he would reason about darkness and light in exactly the same way.
