Welcome to @cutedicta's blog. Today I will be talking on the importance of names, the power behind names and why God restores our name.

What name do you bare? Does your name have a positive or negative influence on you? Do you know the meaning of your name? Have you taken time to find out what you name really mean?

Names are of great value. They have great influence over us. They define who we truly are.

Names are very significant than merely seeing them as a pack of letters combine together to sound suitable to the ear. We don't just bare names to be able to identify each other. God gave us names as a gift from him. They are very powerful.

Our real name is like a fragment of our skin, is just like a part of us, it's with us every where we go, just like a passport, declaring and testifying of our unique existence on earth. And we hardly inquire about the role our name plays, or what makes us who we truly are. Our first names reveals the dreams and desire of our parents, culture, family and gives us a sense of belonging. While our surname bares the history of our ancestors, a branding of both union and transmission.

Our names walks with us in life and follows us in death. Names represents and differentiates us, and ought to be given more acknowledgment than they get.

Imagine the liberty you have naming a fear you have, or the cause of anger holding you bound, or the cause of shame you hide, mention them aloud, know them, in doing this you will loose the controlling hold they have over you. That shows power. That's the power in having a name which you can call to enable you control things physically or in the spiritual.

People always see names as less important, and this action can be very destructive. So many people have been afflicted, and destroyed by spiritual attacks Whereby our names have been mentioned in high places for evil. But by the promises of God through Jesus Christ we are saved from such manipulation. By accepting Jesus into our lives we have been given new identities.

Let's see some cases in the Bible where there names had to be changed, for better things to happen in their lives, in the person of Jabez, his mother bore him while in sorrow and for that reason she named him Jabez and from that time on, he faced great tribulations in his life until he realized and changed his name and God had mercy, and blessed him indeed by enlarging his territory.

Also Abram was changed to Abraham for him to be blessed and become a father of all nations, Simon was changed to Peter, While Saul was changed to Saul. If names didn't matter, God wouldn't have bothered to change there names, He would have gone ahead and blessed or used them without changing their names.

What am I saying? We should be mindful of the names we bear, they have a great influence on us, what name do you bear, do you know the meaning? Can you notice the meaning of your name reflecting in your life? If the meaning of your name reflects negatively in your life, prayerfully change it into a more significant name and you will see it work wonders in your life.

Are you a parent? Before given your children names do a through research about the name, don't name your child based on sentiment it will do more harm than good.

There is authority and power in the words we speak to our infant and children of the age of four. When we speak encouraging words to them at an early age, they face less problems with their identity and purpose much later in life.

We should be mindful of the kind of names or nick names we bare, there is power behind them that can make us or mare us.

But remember GOD holds your name in high esteem, and have placed value over you and your name.  He loves us so that He engraved our names in His hands (Isaiah 49:16).

This could only come to pass because of the name of Jesus, which is the most powerful name of them all. God gave the authority and power of salvation to the name of Jesus that through this we will have an identity that is determined by the power of Jesus Christ.

In conclusion when we notice our names are speaking negatively in our lives, let's endeavor to change it as quickly as possible, now, I don't mean just our first names but surname inclusive, we shouldn't say it's our ancestral name and cannot be changed. It's either we change them or they afflict us continuously till our death.

Hope this helps someone in need. Thanks for stopping by. You are highly appreciated.

Love your article.
I think most of us need to know and realise that, apart from the name given to us by our parents, everyone of us has an original name with God, which is inline with our true identity.
Just like Jesus name was pronounced beforee His birth, by the angel Gabriel.

Discovering this name will remove struggle and labour from our life endeavors and replace it with favour.

Name is really an important part of our life.
It is when you receive the new birth, by BEING BORN AGAIN that you actually begin to live in your true divine IDENTITY.

I like this though I find it difficult to believe that names for affect otherwise

Why did Jesus change some of his desciples names? There must be something about the names we bear. I rest it here.
