Refereum(RFR) is a referral marketplace for games where you can earn RFR points for watching and streaming games or referring to your friends and acquintaces. This ICO has gotten a lot of atention due to the fact that they give away a lot of free points for stuff like: joining their telegram group, joining their discord group or downloading different games.

As you are able to pay with refereum points in order to buy games, a lot of gamers ( most of whom are children ) have done all these steps, started referring friends or spending a lot of time on streams in order to buy their desired games.

Main page

Considering the ones above, the main public are the gamers and therefore most of these people are not yet involved into the cryptocurrencies space. These said, their mainpage is designed for this audiences and it doesn't include information that a regular ICO provies like: whitepaper, team, advisors, roadmap, tokensale etc.

We can find all these information on the token page. One above the other, both of the pages look really good and it's easy to find information about team members, whitepaper, code etc. The roadmap is missing from here, though!

The main page introduction video is also really catchy and well made!

Token Economics

Did you think that is to good to be true, right? Well it is too good to be true. For an ICO the hardcap means total ammount of USD that's collected in order to finish the ICO sale. If the hardcap is too big, then the coin can't grow that much as it starts with the marketcap from the hardcap. If refereum has a 25 million USD hardcap, then it will be able to hit ~100x profit it it gets into rank 70-80 coins of the market, but we don't know what hardcap it will have :/.

So, here comes the fishy part though. There are 6 days untill the main sale starts and they hid the hardcap amount, token sale price and total tokens for sale. I will link down below a screenshot which is 1 week old and one screenshot from now with their token sale information.

Whitepaper

The whitepaper is nicely written and I can pronounce that the this project's key point is marketing. Long story short, in the whitepaper they explain how big of an industry gaming is and how much potential can refereum have. The amount of money lost in adevertising can be reduced up to 3X with the refereum programs. They also support the idea that most of new players of a mobile game come from friends and relatives

They have also integrated Refereum with Twitch. That means people can livestream/ watch livestreams and get paid in Refereum points every hour. There's a further integration planned with Unity as well, which is one of the most used game engines.

Team

CEO - Dylan Jones

Refereum claims to have some big names as their background like: Unity, Google, Zynga, Ubisoft, EA sports etc. But we shoudn't get driven by these looks. While I was researching the CEO's main profile, Dylan Jones, I found out that he was just working for Unity as a Analytics Consultant for a short period of time, but yet it can add up to his CV.

Engine developer - Mark Maratea

Mark Maratea is one of the key members of the team as he is in the programming field for over 15 years according to his linkedin. The highlight of his past job activity is working at EA sports.

Katie Williams - Communications

Katie William is in the field of writing, communications and journalism for about 5 years. They added Google as her main background, but in fact she works at sync (Synergis Creative) which is linked to Google indirectly.

Advisor - Oleksii Matiiasevych

Oleksii takes a really important part in advisory as he has saved and returned millions of dollars of Ethereum in July's multi-sig exploit and mentors others to mature blockchain security. He writes Refereum’s smart contracts.

He has a pretty solid background as an advisor in my opinion!

Roadmap

Their roadmap can only be found in the whitepaper and from my point of view it is really poorly structured and it can say about the team that they're unsure about their future projects.

Community

One of the most remarcable community achievements is their telegram group, which hit 100.000 members! In fact, the group is really inactive for 100.000 members ( only 5-10 people chatting at a certain time ) and there might be a lot of bots. Also, a lot of people joined telegram just to get their free refereum points and probably never came back to telegram after that.

That being said, we shouldn't get hyped because of these numbers! I also want to tell you that I got kicked from the telegram group once I was asking why did they start hiding the tokensale information.

For any official announcements be sure to check their medium page.

Final thoughts

Considering the fact that they have hid the token sale information and the fact that they kicked me from the telegram group once I started asking few questions I think that refereum still has potential but but also smells fishy.

If you plan to register for the ICO sale you need to fill in the whitelist. You need to provide some personal information like name and email in order to be able to join the ICO sale. They will choose the people from the whitelist considering their contribution on the community and other factors.

Here is the link-no referral to join refereum. If you think this blog post helped you then you can use the referral link in order to join.

I would really want you to consider this score is just my personal opinion and this post does not represent any financial advise or counseling. Thank you for reading and feel free to comment if you agree or dissagree with what I've said above. 👍

Aren't there enough other similar projects to not be in need of chasing a definitely fishy smelling one ? Could you maybe compare with "XP" (Experience Points). I clearly would not invest in a project that kicks me out of the Telegram group because I ask questions ...

I forgot about XP, I didnt / wouldnt invest in such a project either, but as I analyse it I thought it'd be good if I would share my view on it with others!
