Weekly Overview of Translation Category - Week 57, 2018

in #iamutopian6 years ago

As a Community Manager for Utopian, I will continue to write these weekly reports for the translation category. The report will include:

  1. Translators' Activities
  2. Moderators' Activities

In this report, I will follow the format of the other Utopian categories to provide the following information:

  • Graphs of the translators' contributions
  • Graphs of language teams contributions
  • Charts of comparisons of the different weeks
  • Graphs of moderators' scoring
  • Average score of the category & comparisons
  • Showcase the staff pick of the week if there is one
  • Update the Translators Members List
  • Upcoming Events

Summary Overview for Week 57: Jan 24 - Jan 31, 2019

A. Contributions Summary

1. Translators' Contributions for This Week

This week, we have 39 Contributions

In the translation category, it is important that we monitor the contributions submitted by the different language teams as translators work together in teams.

Therefore, the statistics and graphs will not show the contributions of the individual translators but will display the 17 language teams instead.

The following chart shows the distribution of contributions of the 17 different language teams.

Analysis:

  • Serbian team leads this week with 11 contributions.
  • Followed by Spanish nd Portuguese team with 5 contributions each.
  • Then Chinese and Dutch team.
  • There are no contributions from Greek, Slovenian and Hebrew teams.

2. Total Contributions of 4 Weeks

We will compare the total contributions in the translation category for 4 weeks time period.

Week 54: 47 contributions
Week 55: 39 contributions
Week 56: 48 contributions
Week 57: 39 contributions

There is a decrease of contributions this week. It seems that the translation category is still unstable from week to week.

3. Four Weeks Comparisons for Each Language Team

The following table shows the number of contributions in the different language teams for 4 weeks.

Analysis:

  • There are 4 color bars for each language teams with each bar representing the 4 different weeks.
  • The following teams show signs of increasing engagement: Serbian, Dutch, Portuguese
  • The following teams show signs of getting less engaged: Greek, French, Slovenian and Hebrew

We will need to do some follow up on the Greek team as they used to be one of the most active teams in translation.

4. Overall Growth of Each Language Team for 4 weeks

It is important that we measure the language team activities not just by one week but to see their monthly overall performance.

The following graph shows the total number of contributions of the 17 language teams in the past 4 weeks

Analysis

From the chart, we are able to see the situation of each language team in the spread of 4 weeks:

  • Spanish & Serbian teams are most active in a consistent manner
  • Followed by the Portuguese team
  • And then Chinese and Vietnamese team
  • There is little growth in Greek, French, Slovenian and Hebrew teams

From here, we will need to find out what is happening to translators who are not active and their reasons for inactivity.

B. Language Moderators' Scoring - Week 57

For the scoring distribution, we have 27 moderators, so I need to group the scoring into language teams so that you can see the analysis clearer in the distribution of scoring.

1. Chart showing the distribution of scores

The X-axis is not able to list out all the languages for each score and only able to list out the language for every other 2 scores shown.

2. Analysis

  • The highest score this week is 86 given by the Serbian moderator.
  • The lowest score this week is 49 given by the Arabic moderator.
  • About 40% of the contributions receive scores between 80 to 90
  • About 30% of the contributions receive scores between 70 to 80
  • About 30% of the contributions receive scores below 70.

The scores of the new questionnaire are able to reflect the quality of the translation in a better spectrum. We want all translators to get a score above 70 for quality control. Only 70% of translators meet the standard.

The situation is a bit better than last week as there is an increase of 10% quality submission.

Contributions that are lower than 70 need remedial training. With 30% contributions receiving a score lower than 70, we need to upgrade the quality of our translators.

3. The average score of the Contributions is 74.

Last week, the average score was 70.

This week, there is an increase in the quality of the translation work.

Since these translators have all been screened to do translation work, the average score should be above 70 to show the quality standard.

So far, we are reaching the minimal standard.

C. Staff Pick This Week

Unfortunately, there is no staff pick this week.

D. Translation Teams - 104 Members List

Please note: There were no restructuring of tems this week.

E. Upcoming Events - Interviewing the Serbian Team Translators

It has been quiet these days, so I will start interviewing the translators to get some conversation and engagement going for the DaVinci platform.

Since Serbian team has active translators translating in a consistent manner week by week, I an still in the process of interviewing the 3 Serbian translators. This will take some time before I am able to post their interviews.

That's it for this week,
Rosa

As usual, your report is highly detailed and informative. I appreciate how you regularly make your report extensive and unique. Well done!

Despite the decrease in the influx of contribution, I am impressed with the quality of the contribution received. But, I think you guys should focus on teams that are not active and do the necessary restructuring.
The shape of the chart looks different this week. The Serbian team took the lead, and It looks like some of the Spanish guys were busy with other things. (Just an assumption:)

Thanks for the information!

Please note that while the CM hasn't changed the footer, I am not scoring #iamutopian posts based on the questionnaire. They have their own metric, and that will be the case until we go live with the new guidelines and new questionnaire, which will be comprehensive enough to reflect these types of posts.

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.
