Tryin to finish a blanket

in #humor5 years ago

Back before Christmas I was making throw size blankets for my grandkids. The blankets are adult size throw, so for small kids they are full size blankets. My thought process is that way they can use them longer
Anyway - the pattern was corner to corner (super easy to do, I'll link a YouTube below)
I was working on the 3rd blanket, out of 5, and it was Oct. These were Christmas presents - so I was in a bit of a hurry but not panicking - yet - when I ran out of yarn to finish that particular one.
That's fine - I'll just dash to the store and get more - or not - they had sold out. This was a Sat I believe and the truck would be in on Wed with 10 skeins. I spent a few mins talking to the dept manager, who was absolutely lovely, and decided to go ahead and get the yarn for the 4th blanket as to not loose time and end up not being done (yes, I'm a worry wort like that)
So Wed rolls around, it's a rainy shitty morning so I didn't get to the store until the afternoon.
I walked in, saw the dept manager and the following is the convo:
Me: hey did you get that yarn in?
DeptMangr: (her face fell when she looked at me) oh no! I thought that was you earlier!! This lady came in and bought all 10 skeins. I hadn't even had a chance to put them out.
She said she needed to finish a baby blanket and wanted to make sure she had enough yarn
Me: (honestly stunned and amused) uuhh the fuck kind of baby is she making a blanket for - a baby ELEPHANT?!? Cause I have an adult size throw that's only using 5 or 6 skeins... I for real just need 1 skein tho... Just one lil skein of yarn...
(I was laffin for real - cause y'all - that about sums up my life sometimes)
DeptMangr: (kind of laffin now) I don't know, she didn't say. She just said she needed to finish a baby blanket.
Me: well no biggie - y'all will get some more in next week? If so I'll just go ahead an pick yarn for the next blanket and start it
DeptMangr: yes ma'am and I'll make sure I keep one out for you. Are you sure that's all you need?
Me: yep, totally sure. I would love to know what stitch she's doing or what size blanket she's really making tho...

I did get the yarn the next week, and the blanket throws all finished by Christmas :)
Also I am not complaining that the lady bought them all - it was quite hysterical honestly

The video is Bella Coco. I love her videos as well however she is British, so she uses UK crochet terms instead of US crochet terms. She does give the US terms, example a double in the US is a Treble in the UK, however she tends to use the UK terms more often.
Promise it's not hard to remember
