Streetlights

I am a little obsessed with streetlights and photographing them. The photo above was captured on a snowy night and to me it has this dreamy, comforting, cinematic feeling to it.

There is a calm almost protective nature that streetlights posses. They watch over the town around us as we sleep, and they guide late night travelers who wander the streets with friends or alone. It's kind of fun to think of them as the guardians of the night.

So, when I photograph streetlights I try to give them personality and mystery. I try to convey the message that they are beacons of hope in the dark.

This is probably my favorite streetlight photo that I have taken to date. The branches are tangled and weaved around the light in a way that could almost make you feel trapped, but the light shines through them in a way that guides you. The composition draws you away from your trapped feelings and almost gives you a sense of hope.

There is light in the darkness and there is always hope, sometimes all we have to do is look for it.
