Guava or often known as cashew (pesidium guajava) is a tropical fruit plant originating from Brazil, then spread to Indonesia via Taiwan. This guava has a dark green fruit color when young and yellowish green when ripe or old. Fruit flavor sweet, many contain vitamin C.

In Indonesia a lot of these types of cashew planted, both in front of the house (small scale), as well as in the yard and moor (large scale). Perhaps because it is easy to plant in any type of land and fruitful fruit does not follow seasonal, making people love to grow this guava.

Terms of growing guava plants

  • Tropical climate, although in subtropical climate can grow but less than maximum, rainfall 1000 - 2000 mm / year with temperature 23 - 28 ° c.
  • It is suitable for planting on soils containing many nutrients, by knowing the soil pH between 6 -7, with a height of 5 - 1200m above sea level.

Well for my friend who has not understood how to grow this guava, and still confused as to where the right way, so that the plants will be able to grow fertile and fruit many, let's follow the complete guide how to do the following.

Preparation of plant seeds

In order to select the seeds of guava plants, you can get it in two ways, namely through fegetatif or generative, if fegetatif pal can through cutting, grafting, and shoots. While the generative way my friend can take seeds from planting the seeds directly by way of menyemainya first to grow. For this time I will explain the way of cultivation by selecting the seeds by fegetatif by grafting.

Why with grafting ..?

Because in this way 'my friend can produce a quick fruitful guava fruit, sometimes faster than the interpreted that the age of 4 months from planting has been fruitful.

Setting up planting land

To cultivate the guava, in preparing the planting land is not much different from the way of preparing land for other crops, which is enough to find a good place of quality soil type, in the sense of fertile soil is loose and contains many nutrients in it.

After my friend has got a good place that is in quite enough to occupy the plant jabu seeds is now it is time to create a pit of excavation, for the preparation of planting seeds of guava that is produced from the grafting.

After my friend already have the land ready to plant in accordance with the above guidelines, now it's time to do the planting of guava seeds.

Planting Guava Seeds

After the buddy has a transplant seed, whether it is the result of graft itself, buy in the market, or ask the same neighbors, and also have prepared the land that has been fertilized according to the guide above, let us immediately go to the planting process.

The process of growing guava

Dig the soil that has been fertilized, with the size of the excavation 'adjust the diameter of the planting media congenital trunk. It means "the size of the soil that is used to transplant, or the size of the soil on the transplanted graft to polybag, then open the steamer in the polybag or graft.

Put into the excavation pit and urug back with dug soil. Give a reinforcement pole, my friend can use bamboo or wood, then tie with the seeds of guava seeds, aim "to keep the seeds of guava seeds unstable when exposed to wind or rain.
Furthermore, flush with water leak, 1 day 2 × in the dry season, and in the rainy season flush once a day with attention to soil moisture.

The planting is complete, now it is only the stage of crop maintenance, which is the process of determining whether the plant will grow well and fertile with dense fruits, or vice versa 'dwarfs and will die.

Care guava crop

The determinants of success or failure of a guava plant to grow, are determined by good care and in the right way, among which are :

a. Disinfecting and stretching
After the plants are 1 - 2 months from planting, do penyiangn at once with the soil eruption, the way is as follows. Penyiangn done by cleaning and weeding weeds that grow in the plant area.

b. Fertilization
Because the basic fertilization has been done at the time of planting land preparation, after the age of the plant stepped on 10-12 months and is ready utuk in fruit, do fertilization aftershocks by providing a compound fertilizer 'NPK, 250 g and tsp 250 g / tree.

How to fertilization, mix fertilizer on top with 2 liters of clean water and then pour into the combustion, with laden plants have been banned or in loose, so the fertilizer can be absorbed by the soil. Or my friend can take directly on the area around the stem, make excavations with a depth of 5 cm, with a distance of 30 cm trees, then flush 2 × 1 day routine.

The above fertilization dosage is not patent yet, it is better to follow the appointment in the dosage of the fertilizer container, or adjust to the size of the plant. Because in 1 year of plant growth is not always the same between guava plants with one another.

After 1.5 years give the manure, by way of circular hoisted on the side of the tree trunk as deep as 30 cm, then manure, or it could be with artificial organic fertilizer alone, in the input of the fun and then flush with the routine.

c. Disinfecting plant pests
Guava plants is a plant that has a lot of pests and diseases, what if not handled properly, will result in the leaves of gudul and fruit fruit there are many caterpillars in it.

Guava fruit harvest

After the guava plant is free from pests and diseases, this plant can bear fruit freely until old. Guava crop plants can be fruitful with maximum harvest about the age of the plant stepped on 2-3 years, even though the age of 1 year can bear fruit but not yet maximal.

As for how the harvesters should be extra careful because the fruit is susceptible to skin bruising due to impact resulting in broken fruit, thus reducing the selling price.

Before harvesting do do first know which kind of guava fruit which is old, here is characteristic of fruit seeds that are old and ready to harvest.

Characteristics of old guava traits (cook) :

  • Seed peel is shiny.
  • The color of yellowish green peel.
  • The flesh on the handle is rather soft.
  • If the food even though still a little hard is sweet.
  • Smelled fragrant pink.
