VIDEO: Mountain LIONS and FIREARMS ~ This Is Why We Carry GUNS On The Homestead! ~ PLUS PHOTOS
From the very first videos we uploaded, people would ask about our firearms. The wanted to know why we carry guns on our homestead. Some people even get offended at the sight of us carrying and using firearms. First off, this is America and while there are a few crazies out there that make the news, most gun owners in American are very sane and educated people who would never want to harm anyone.
But out here in the American Ozark Wilderness, you ARE NOT TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN! There are animals that will stalk and hunt people or attack people. And so you need to be mindful of that fact especially if you have small children in the area running around because they are particularly defenseless.

Family of bears that my neighbor got pictures with on his trail camera.
Mountain Lion caught on camera 2016 less than a mile from our house.
Rattlesnake that for some strange reason is missing its head. Found outside my back door.
Copperhead also strangely missing its head. Found in my garden.
I hope this makes sense as to why we carry firearms on our homestead. Also we have issues with coyotes that will try and kill your newborn lambs and calfs each spring and so we keep them in paddocks close to the house at night where we can defend them easily should they come under attack. Our animals are precious to us and that is why we defend them.

I remember when I first started following you on youtube, in one of your early videos where you and Tim were working on something outside and were packing, I was shaking my head over the stupid comments people were making in regards to that. But none of our dangerous creatures have a problem with their heads falling off.

If I was surrounded by anything other than rabbits and foxes here in the Moorlands (UK) I'd certainly be making sure my kids were protected and I was competent to protect them. It is responsible action.

Zach, it's not just the Ozarks that they fall off by themselves, they disappear here in Lower Alabama too LOL I posted photos of the blueberry bush/tree today. Chack it out if you get a chance. Also, planning to post the Earth Bucket Tomatoes soon too.
Guns have a use and when used properly are no problem to anyone. Even in the UK, you can apply for a permit for a firearm if you can you prove have a reasonable use for it, mostly sports shooting, pest control or re-enactment purposes.
I can't say I agree with the stereotype of every American having half a dozen revolvers by the bed and a crate of M16's in the garage (yes, stereotype, I know it's not the case... always :P ) but then the UK is a different climate. We banned guns a long time ago so gun crime is much lower, I worry more about someone with a knife these days!
The golden rule as always, don't be a dick with it or you won't have it, and it looks like you have your head firmly screwed on :)

WOW, great post. Don't get me started on people who act so offended by guns but you are handling it gently. Looks like you might have a Weasel. I think they will take the heads off like that. I guess you both are defending the home front. That's the weasels way of paying rent. Keep up the great posts!
