HOMESTEADING AUGUST HARVEST!
August 🌱
What a rich time of year this is for harvesting! Courgette and Lemon Cucumber have been coming thick and fast and the Fennel was a great success again this year. I’m Enjoying watching my Pumpkins grow which are looking great for Halloween.
After a day of watering, weeding and digging there really is nothing better than sitting back and taking in all the hard work that has been put in.
Unfortunately I missed this years BBQ as I was away. I’m loving the new bunting they put up though for the day on the communal plot it looks great!
I have not been letting the veg go to waste this year. Giving some to friends and make some lovely pasta using up the Courgettes and the Cucumbers in salad and Gin. I also lifted all the New Potatoes to make some Potato salad.
I managed to find another two bed bases too, that I have made into raised beds to give me more space for planting.
The highlight of the month has to be finding a Grow Your Own Dragon Garden at the shop, it’s coming along nicely.
It’s a funny time of year down at the allotment. The past few days I’ve been there has been some funny looking veg that people have been giving away; a Courgette that looks like a Duck and one that is so big it fills a shopping basket (see pics).
There are a few dates coming up for your diaries next month. First Growing Matters are having an open day on the 1st September 11am till 4pm Then on the 8th September it’s the 2018 Edinburgh Allotment Show. See pics for full details.
The goss from the moss is that I’m working on some Bird-houses. Watch this space.
Thanks! @janver06
