RE: Homegrown Mushroom Update - 1 week in

in #homesteading7 years ago

ahhh just the post i was looking for ;-) a friend just have me a whole bag of oyster mycelium in a bag.. I was wondering what substrate to use.. i have brown rice but not vemiculite. i wonder if i just soak or cook the rice until its soft an holds water whether that alone will be ok?

thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comment @eco-alex I'm not sure if just brown rice would work, especially once cooked as the moisture levels may be to high, id try it any way but maybe avoid cooking it so its got some ability to absorb.

Or cardboard seems like a great alternative and oysters will happily grow on it (I'm collecting lots from work correctly to compost, but now for the oysters also)

I'd love to see how you get on with your mushroom adventure 👍
