RE: Transitioning from City Life to Country Living

in #homesteading7 years ago

Congratulations! We made the transition just over a year ago and it is worth it. Lots of adjusting to do but many of those services will soon be easy to get along without and think about all the money you will save over your lifetime. Get a barrel to burn the trash in and maybe a barrel for recycling.

Sort:

Oh, we are actually really excited to take responsibility for our waste. We practiced for this change for months before moving--we have a four-part sorting system set up outside our house, and we are loving not generating trash that contributes to some nameless landfill.

Four parts, getting fancy lol. We let it pile up and then take it to the recycling facility and make $30 or $40 every few months. Better than sending it off to get buried!

Our garbage is so very fancy. We have glass, ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal, and paper. Plastic fills up a walmart bag until we can drop it off at their plastic recycling there. We got some 55 gallon plastic drums to hold it all until we can deal with it, and it seems to work out just fine! I would MUCH rather see it get used again than get buried, for sure!
