RE: FANTASTIC GARLIC HARVEST! BAM! WOW! ~ Gardeners and Cooks Delight! - 📷 [Video inside]

I could see garlic scapes on the plants before they were picked. We had read that if you cut them off when they come up the garlic itself will grow bigger. This did work for us and now we enjoy the scapes early in the ye ar, and put them in glass jars on the counter because they are so graceful. How did your garlic get so big even with leaving the scapes on?

I used the small garlic that was leftover from last year and planted them in the spring. They seem to be growing at the same pace as the ones planted in the fall.

I think its a wivestale that if you cut them they grow bulbs. They will grow bulbs regardless. We do eat them. YUMMY!

I meant that the plant would put more energy into the garlic bulb. Our garlic were coming out so tiny but this did help to increase the size of the bulbs.
Do you notice this with those you cut the scapes off?

I totally believe it might be true but I've just never done it because I never had an issue. I will make an effort to do that next year! THANKS!

Yes, although I think your fertilizer might account for the large size.
Will we still be here comparing notes about gardening next harvest? Having just started this less than 2 weeks ago I am amazed by how much I am learning.

We use rabbit manure in most of our garden. We can get it for $50 by the truckload. It is amazing stuff. Also, we found a source for freshly used mushroom compost and that stuff is amazing! We top off with back to eden style wood chips to cover the soil and keep in moisture. I highly recommend watching the Back To Eden movie if you can.

Good advice. I'll look it up.
