10 WINS IN A ROW?! // LetsGoCORINGATION

Greetings, Coringation travelers!

Last Wednesday, the 22nd of January of 2025, the Men's Football Team of Corinthians played at home, in the Neo Química Arena, against the squad of Água Santa, for the São Paulo State's championship of this year, popualrly known as Paulistão 2025, valid for the third round in Groups Phase.

Batizado is a term in Portuguese that means "to be baptized". In the football context, it is commonly used to refer to the moment that a player scores their first goal for the squad. This game was special, because we had two "batizados" in this one...

The two players that had the honor and lived an unforgettable experience were Alex Santana, a veteran defensive-midfielder, and João Pedro Tchoca, a defender who played for the Corinthians Juvenile squads for a lot of his Junior Career, being formed within the Club.

The game itself was not amazing: our squad is a lot superior then Água Santa's, so it was in our hand to take control of the game.

At the 8 minute mark, we fought to win a corner kick that the referee was not sure if it was ours, but the side referee confirmed. In the corner kick, Igor Coronado crossed into the box directly into an opponent defender. However, they did not react well, and the ball bounced off him into the feet of Alex Santana, who marvelously touched the ball with the back part of his foot, through the keeper's legs, to score a masterpiece goal! Corinthians 1x0

A few moments later, when the clock signaled 13', after a good attacking moment from the Alvinegro team, we had a lateral free kick awarded for an illegal tackle into Coronado. It was him again that crossed the ball, that was touched on the way by an opponent, making the keeper's life more difficult. The goalie was even able to deflect the ball, but it ended up on the knee of João Pedro Tchoca, our defender, right bellow the goal line. He manged to touch it upwards. It kissed the horizontal bar and entered!! 2x0

Unfortunately, one player from the opposite side had two much space outside the box, and shot it. Netinho was than able to minimize our advantage to one. 2x1

The second half was a lot less emotion filled, but Corinthians tried a lot to further its lead.

Memphis Depay shined again, and in one his attacking runs he had already beaten every defender, when one of them tackled him missing the ball completely. Red card for the opponent.

That settled it. Eve though we were not able to score again, the red card forced by Depay made so that Água Santa gave up on trying to realistically tie the game, and it ended up 2x1.

The boys from the Sub-20 years Corinthians squad won against Grêmio in the semifinals on the same day, but unfortunately lost against São Paulo yesterday on the finals of the Copinha 2025. However, I wanted to register here my congratulations for them for the second place! They brought a lot of happiness to corinthianos all over the world.

As stated before, one of our batizados of the day, Tchoca, is also a player that used to play for the Junior squads, and was the Man of the Match and has his statistics displayed on the image above.

Even tough I stated that last game marked 12 wins in a row in Brazilian championships for Corinthians, we had a loss in the Copa Sudamericana during the start of this streak; however, if we take the 7 wins in a row in the Brasileirão after that defeat, summed up with these 3 wins in this year, we get to 10 WINS IN A ROW FOR OUR TEAM!!!

And today, the 26th, we have the chance to avenge the boys from the Copinha against the same São Paulo at their stadium Morumbis. This opponent is one of our biggest rivals, and the classic that is the game between our two squads is called the Majestoso.
