THE DIARY GAME [14/10/2024] // Grooming the next generation.
Good day steaming Steemians and welcome once more to my blog as I share my yesterday's diary notes with you.
Succession is a very delicate phase of any organisation, company, industry, or institution that should be given serious thought from the very start. If left till latter or for the end, it gives way for mediocrity, failure and/or discontinuity of whatever has been built through out life.
From the onset, families start grooming those who'll carry on with the traditions, companies start training and mentoring the next managers, institutions begin instilling the right norms and ideologies into the minds of the next leaders. Equally, we in the beauty and well-being industry are very particular about what has been built so far, consolidating what is happening now and paving the way for what will happen in the future after us. That's the reason why yesterday, at our beauty school we organized an orientation session for all newly enrolled hair dressing, beauty therapy and therapeutic massage students.
Legacy is not what i did for myself. It's what I'm doing for the next generation

My day started early and after committing it in the hands of the Almighty, I drank my habitual 1 litre of water. I got prepared and left home at about 7am. The traffic was very tight but I managed my way to work and got there before 8am. Every where was already set waiting for the newly enrolled students as they walked in one after the other. They were all looking clean, smart, lost😅 but expectant. Some came already dressed in their uniforms but most were in assorted wears.
Set to receive the students
Students ready to be guided
The new academic year is just about to begin and we already have about 25 newly enrolled students amongst whom are about 10 English speaking students whom I'll be incharge of. Principally, I'll be handling the following courses; Cosmetology, Dermatology, Equipement Technology, Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, Hair Science and Beauty Therapy.
The session started and the study and academics affairs manager welcomed the students and introduced all the course instructors, who then took turns in enlightening the students on a number of things concerning the profession. It was an amazing exchange between the teachers and the future professionals especially as they were very amazed at the seriousness, the extent and the career opportunities that await them after their training. After all the other tutors had spoken, it was my turn. I focused more on having them reshape their mind-sets around this profession. 👇
- Most often, parents choose or "settle" for beauty therapy or hair dressing as a last resort for their children or relatives after they have failed in conventional education or are wayward. I made them understand that it's a profession like any other, infact a profession at the center of every other. There is no lawyer, doctor, engineer, pilot, you name it, who will step out to work without taking a bath, brush their teeth, apply lotion, do their hair, nails etc. Therefore they should carry their profession with pride.
- Around professional ethics, I made them to understand that aside knowledge, discipline and professionalism are the attributes that will make them stand out and be competitive on any platform at home or abroad.
- Being surprised about their various course contents and how scientifically inclined they are, I drew their attention to the fact that critical thinking, analysis, and solution based approach to everything service they will render is a prerequisite to be termed "professional". They will be professionals who understand the WHAT, WHY and the HOW of things.
- I concluded by asking them to have fun in the process and to value every moment they will spend at school, with their tutors and course mates because one year goes by very fast.

At the end, the proprietor came in and after welcoming the students, he handed over a beginner's gift pack to all the new students. This included a laptop for every one, and some basic tools. What a way to be welcomed at school😊. After all was said and done, refreshments were served and the students ate while interacting and getting to know each other.

It was about 6pm when I got home after facing the hectic traffic. I showered, had dinner, shared a bottle of red French wine🍷 with my brother. I retired for the night right after that, feeling fulfilled from the work I did earlier and excited about the future of the Hair and beauty industry in my country.
Before I crashed for the night
Thank you all for sharing in my day and I hope to have you glued here again soonest.
