Football the Power to Unite Cameroonians.
Greetings to all my fellow Steemians. Days have gone by with so much excitement and tensions within Cameroonian and Africa as whole just because of the Afcon. There came 24 teams to participate for the first of it kind tournament in Africa but only one king emerge. It’s indeed a binding factor to mankind as many traveled from far and near just to cheer for their home countries. This was the case of Cameroon despite huge challenges in her political, social and economic activities still made it a success.

The case of Cameroon as concerns football goes far from just playing I’m the field. This is because many believe it’s another medium whereby top government officials oppress Cameroonians by stealing public money thus making many to think all is ok.
Football in general have the power in bringing or uniting people together be it of different culture, races, nationality and age but this isn’t the case in Cameroon as of the just ended African Cup of Nations that started and ended between the 9th of January to 6th February. The Cameroonians population sees it as a game but many take it as a means to enrich themselves. In Cameroon we consider football as the overall best game because it’s the highest played and watched sports all over the nation.
It’s only in Cameroon, a country made up of more than 250 ethnic groups and a population of more than 26 million inhabitants, to come as one just only for a short period of time thanks to the AFCON tournament. It was the power of the game seeing many cried and smile from all over Cameroon and African as a continent.
Its surprising how Cameroon host the Afcon when she still haven’t recover from the pains of Boko Haram in the Far North attacks, the increase in highway robbers, frequent road accidents and the prevailing war in the North West and South West Regions that have existed for more than 5 years.
The Cameroonian people aren’t happy about their government yet they can’t complaint. Many are finding it hard to survive and the few who try to showcase are locked behind bars by the same government but yet because of a game that just lasted for a month, many came together as a sign of patriotism and to support the lions.
Many Cameroonians had mixed feelings some happy while others doubting if the Country will host the tournament with the prevailing political, socio-economic and other matters. The Countey finally host the tournament despite fears and unreadiness as stipulated by many. Just because of the game power, Cameroonians could pretend for once of their bad government and host the afcon and were once happy as it was a historical moment for the history of Cameroon.
With the advent of the Covid, many could wonder how possible would it be most especially for Cameroon with her covid rise to welcome foreigners all over African to participate for this great tournament. In this light all stadia were full and it could be clear that the problem in Cameroon is with the government not the country and this explains why everyone tried to make this a success.
One can’t imagine that before the games, mobile money taxes increased, prices of basic commodities increased but yet the Cameroonian population though complaining heavy still have the spirit and passion to see it through that led Cameroon make history. One could think after the game, we would have constant power supply, reduction in some taxes and some major changes but it seems the situation remains so while many can’t afford to eat 2 times daily others have made with themselves millions just from the tournament.
Football is more than just a sport... Football is a way of life... to us Cameroonians, it is almost a religion.
Cameroon is a great football country, and that's what unites and keeps our flame on
Am telling you, football is really the power to unite Cameroonians
Dis Afcon has really helped us to see the strength of our nation
