What Is Discrimination?

Discrimination referes to the unfair treatment of a person or group of people based on their characteristics. It can violate a person's dignity.

Types Of Discriminations

(1), Racial Discrimination. Racial discrimination is any discrimination against any individual on the basis of their race, ancestry, ethnic or national origin, and/or skin color and hair texture. Individuals can discriminate by refusing to do business with, socialize with, or share resources with people of a certain group.

(2), Religious Discrimination. Religious discrimination means unfavorable treatment because of religious beliefs or practices. It includes refusing to hire someone because of their religion, firing an employee for celebrating religious holidays, and refusing to promote an employee based on their religion.

(3), Pregnancy Discrimination. Pregnancy discrimination is when someone is treated unfairly because they are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. It can occur in hiring, firing, promotions, pay, and other employment benefits.
Examples of pregnancy discrimination:
Being denied a promotion
Being demoted
Being fired after taking maternity leave
Being fired after informing an employer of pregnancy
Receiving a pay cut due to pregnancy
Being denied reasonable accommodations
Being denied time off for prenatal care
Being excluded from training
Having to take lower-paid work
The law against pregnancy discrimination
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) protects women from discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. The PDA applies to workplaces with 15 or more employees.
What you can do if you experience pregnancy discrimination: Write down what happened, Keep medical certificates, Talk to your employer, and File a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

(4), Gender Discrimination. Gender discrimination means treating an employee poorly because of their sex or gender. This can include not hiring a candidate because of their gender, paying employees less based on gender, or firing candidates because of their gender identity.
