Will Back to School Actually be Possible for our Kids?
Steem greetings all the way from the North West region of Cameroon aka “up country”. Today, permit me share my grievances to you all about the back to school resumption in my city.
Schools are supposedly to officially resume on the 9th of September for the academic year 2024/2025 in Cameroon after the long summer break.
As a parent, I often prepare my kids early enough before the final days of school resumption. This week, I had planned to do all the fries of chips, bake cupcakes for their snacks, unfortunately I got the news of a lockdown imposed by separatists fighters.
Each day, we faced series of imposed lockdowns and the rate of indiscriminate killing, kidnapping and forced disappearance is alarming. The sounds of gunshots is no longer scaring to many kids in the region because it has become a normal habit even with the regular army to fire gunshots at will.

What aches me a lot about the whole incident is that each year, tuition fees is always on an increase but if well calculated, you will see that the kids do not study full time. All Mondays are lockdown, meaning they attend classes only from Tuesday to Friday.
Teachers tend to give almost 65% of the work load back to parents in the form of homework. This is to catch up with the syllabus as per the state school calendar. This is not the type of education will planned for our kids.
As it stands now, our kids will not be in school until 2nd October 2024 due to imposed lockdown by separatists fighters. It aches that the so called leaders of the separatists movement are all based abroad with their families living life to the fullest but depriving others from building their own future.
What kind of future are they building up for our kids? To think that they will seat at the comfort of their homes and go live online to declare lockdown.
Each day we are faced with different life challenges but never pray to be in the situation we are currently facing in this town. A lot of uncertainties as all armed gangs have turned into separatists fighters. It is more difficult to differentiate “who is who” in this town.
Our prayer 🤲 each day is that God should come for our rescue. We did not commit any crime or choose to be born from “up country”. Our kids did not commit any crime to be born in this town. No matter the differences they are fighting for, our kids’ education should not be compromised for selfish gains.
Imagine staying indoors from the 9th September to the 2nd of October. The thoughts in our minds is enough depression to kill and broken you down.
Thank you, friend!

It really sad that tho we are innocent of the negative things that happens in out environment, we become victims of it. It might not be easy but during this period, you can homeschool your child using the textbooks, but it's better to be home and safe than for the children to be in school and you get worried.
School has not yet resume, classes are supposed to resume on the 9th. I paid for all textbooks in school and no way I can use the textbooks because they are still in school. All textbooks stay in school unless there is homework.
Eh ya, It is well but safety first.
I’m just thinking of relocating in the next academic year.
Hmm, this is really disheartening, but what can we say? The safety of your kids first. I know you've done all the payment of textbooks and you've also paid tuition fees and now all of a sudden, there is an imposed lockdown 🥺. Yes I know it feels sad, and God in His Mercy will continue to preserve you and your family and every other innocent people out there.
If you wish to withdraw them from that school, it's okay, but just make sure you're not in a rush. You can always teach your kids at home and they will still be the best kids out there. Stay safe ma'am ♥️
We have been going through this for 8 years now and it’s becoming unbearable. Staying at home for 2 weeks is not an easy pill for us to just swallow. Imagine families that depends on daily hustle to survive and now are forced to stay indoors for 2 weeks?
