Steemit Big Chef : Creating My Own Recipe (Fried Cabbage)

in Steem Cameroonlast month

Steem greetings, guys, from the motherland of Cameroon. Welcome to my blog as I share another new recipe with you all. Due to its bicultural nature, Cameroon is blessed with an abundance of different foodstuffs. Living in Cameroon, you can go a month without repeating a meal every day. Of course, we grow up seeing our parents cooking these varieties, and we learn from them.

To me, cooking does not have any particular way as each time I learn to create my recipes using almost the same ingredients. This fried cabbage is rich in protein, fruits and veggies.

We often have different ways of cooking cabbage sauce with either groundnut paste, egusi or just simple sliced it and cook with fresh tomatoes. That said, this recipe require a number of important ingredients.

Ingredients Used
  • Cabbage
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Smoked beef meat
  • White pepper
  • plantains/sweet potatoes
  • green spice
  • Salt
  • Seasoning cubes

|Process of Preparing the Food |

I started by first slicing my cabbage into desirable slices and put in a bowl, sprinkle some salt on it and mixed well. The chemistry of salt being a stronger solution dragging out the weaker solution took place hehehe. At least I still remember my secondary school knowledge. After the salt drained water from the cabbage, I squeezed it to extract the water well and washed it till it was ready to be fried.

While washing the sliced cabbage, I took my smoked beef and “kanda” and boiled them at normal heat till it was ready. I removed the meat and then used the same pot to fry my chopped onions, tomatoes and fried them together with the meat.

When the tomatoes and onions are well fried with the beef, I added some mixed veggies and green spices and continued stirring till I got the desired taste.

I added my grind garlic and white pepper to the mixture and continued stirring. The next in-line was to add the washed cabbage and my meat stock. The least was adding a seasoning cube and salt to taste.

I continued stirring to give time for the cabbage to get ready. After about 30 minutes of cooking, the cabbage was ready to be served.

I had to peel my sweet potato and wash it well. Added some salt to already-boiled water and put the sweet potato on normal heat to boil. I equally peeled some plantains to add to the potatoes to add some nutrients to the meal.

I allowed the potatoes and plantains to boil at normal heat, then I reduced the fire flames so that the water could dry off and the potato and plantain were ready.

I could not wait to serve myself a plate of the meal and every bite of the meal was mouth-watering.

In sum, the meal contains everything one needs for human growth and health.
