Watch a movie from a country other than your own country or not of your country's origin.

I have been seeing a lot of comments and talking about this movie on social media and also among friends. When I saw this challenge, I decided to watch the movie "Straw" by Tyler Perry. I know him to be a good filmmaker from America, and I often watch his movies.

Talk about the main idea of the movie

The movie "Straw" is a psychologically and emotionally gripping movie that tells the story of a single mother called Janiyah. The movie that grips you from the first scene, defined by stories of pain and resilience.

The movie unravels the life of a single mother whose life becomes a tragedy after her daughter is taken away from her because she could not afford to face life's realities, as she was caught up in the aftermath of a fatal crime that slowly eroded her sanity and sense of justice. She demonstrated the character of a woman facing raw vulnerability, putting in all her strength, despite the pain, she was still determined to see herself through. The story entwined through subjects of trauma, past decisions, and guilt.

Describe the plot and setting of the movie.

Plot of the Movie Straw

The plot consists of Janiyah Wiltkinson's day that spans from bad to worse as she faces a series of challenges at her job site, confronting threats of eviction from her landlord while struggling with her daughter's illness. While trying to cash out some cash at the bank for her daughter's food money in school, she was caught up in a confrontation with the cashier, and she later held everyone at the bank as hostages to protect herself and her daughter. The scene at the bank later surged to reveal moments of truth about Janiya's life and the choices she made in life. The movie cuts across themes of desperation, trauma, guilt and past decisions.

Setting of the Movie Straw:

The setting revolves around an urban area with mostly low-income earners, where Janiyah secured an apartment. It portrays the harsh realities of life and the day-to-day struggles of vulnerable persons with no support system and limited resources to meet life demands.

If you were the Director of the movie, what would you do differently?

If I'm the director of the movie, rather than focusing on the struggles of an individual, I will focus more on a societal issue, giving a shift from melodrama to a more insightful story. Many single mothers often want everyone to sympathise with their actions. Everyone should take full responsibility for their actions and not play around to gain sympathy.

I will also bring in Aria's father's role because she did not fall from the sky; both parents are supposed to be involved to give a balance to real-life societal issues of parenting.

In sum, the movie is a great film I will recommend for everyone to watch. I will invite @dove11, @shiftitamnna and @pelon53 to participate.

Thank you for participating in this challenge of season 25.
The instruction says post in steem4nigeria or on your blog. You didn't do that.

5th user on this movie called straw! It means the movie is loved. Good choice of movie!

I think you will do great when you become a movie director from all you have said. But I have a question I didn't see you talk about changing the name of the movie so do you think the name matches with the idea in the movie?

Thank you for the time to read through and give a positive feedback. I thought I posted it to my blog and after realizing it was posted in the wrong place, I did not see any reason to delete and reposted after others had engaged already on the post.

To me, contextually the title do not match with the content of the movie but it attracts the attention of the people to be eager to watch the movie. The title is used to draw attention from the audience to watch the movie. Therefore, I will not change the title of the movie.

Wow! Amazing answer..

I also think the same thing too. The title seem like a bath to attract the audience.
Thank you.

Thanks for inviting me, I watched a movie recently and have that movie in my mind. I plan to submit in this contest for sure. You have explained and input your suggestions well about this movie Around the World which reminds me an old one with the same one in my country.

What an interesting critical review that is! The way you presented the dilemmas of Janiyah seemed so real and I really like the way you would introduce the father in the picture to make it balanced. So, agree, too, that the title, Straw, is not the perfect fit but is certainly the attention-grabber. Vividly performed, Chant!

This is the best part of this post u just made. I love how you think objectively when you were watching the movie. In fact, all the ladies I’ve seen watched this movie, all spoke out of sentiment making her feel like the hero when she was totally guilty. They keep ignoring the fact that she shot an unarmed manager point blank forgetting the fact that he was also someone’s father as well.
