Yes, I have encountered this situation, quite a few times actually!

Am I a Joke To You 08042020110721.jpg

Well, these are not memes made just for fun. I as a doctor have encountered people who are quite ungrateful and talks about things they have no idea about. If you have a business degree, you're not supposed to begiving people medical advice. If you have an engineering degree, you shouldn't be giving people medical advice. If you have a degree in space science, you shouldn't be giving people medical advice. If you have a law degree, you shouldn't be giving people medical advice! You see where I'm going with this...?

Basically, if you have a degree in anything except a Medical Degree, You Should NOT Be Giving People Medical Advice. No need to go outside your comfort zone and try and kill people with your ill advised Medicial suggestions.

Let doctors do what they've learnt to do over 8-10 years. Don't think you've become more knowledgeable than a doctor because you just googled a disease and memorized all the clinical symptoms and treatment options. There's just too much that you don't understand which is involved in practicing medicine. Every patient is different and we, doctors try to approach every patient differently. If google search was enough to treat patients, governments wouldn't be running medical colleges.

I read this quote somewhere :

Don't confuse your Google search with my Medical Degree.

I'm writing this post out of sheer frustration. And please, this is not to indirectly attack anyone or anything like that (just making it clear because I had a little heated discussion on this a few days back. So please, no this is not in regard to that discussion).

This frustration comes from the fact that the head of our country has made some horrible remarks about doctors asking for protective equipment when dealing with coronavirus patients. I've been quite vocal about this. Doctors are at the highest risk of getting infected and doctors have families at home, old parents, young children...

Do we not need to protect them?

I'm just too stunned to make further comments on the statement that had been made.

Let me give you some stats :

Amount of Taka (BDT) to be given as compensation in different sections during the coronavirus crisis :

  • Industrial services - 300 billion Taka
  • Handicraft and small business - 200 billion Taka
  • Export and associated - 125 billion Taka
  • Export item transportation - 50 billion Taka
  • Industrial labor - 50 billion Taka

This is great, right! I do appreciate government taking these initiatives, but are you ready for some brainfreeze?

  • The medical sector that has been right at the fore of this battle - 0 Taka
  • Agriculture sector that is providing food even in this crisis times - 0 Taka

As I said, I'm too stunned to make further comments. let these numbers and the statememts sink in.

Whereever you are, Stay safe, stay healthy.
