Konnos Beach - where the boats seem to float

While everyone who visits the eastern part of Cyprus dreams about visiting Nissi Beach, the less popular Konnos Beach stays not-so-crowded and, once discovered, amazes everyone with its views.
Konnos was definitely one of my favorite places to relax when I lived in Ayia Napa. Getting there takes no more than half an hour by bus, and the bus stop (in front of Konnos Bay Gardens) is in a spot that makes sure you won’t get tired from a long walk. So, if you’re staying in Ayia Napa, just take bus 101 for 1.50 euros and get ready for a short trip with beautiful views of the coast most of the time. When planning your return, look for bus number 102. If your hotel is in Protaras, just switch the bus numbers—go to the beach with 102 and come back with 101.
The place is magical, beautiful, and offers amazing views. To get to the beach, you need to go down the stairs built into the cliff. The area is green (well, as green as a Mediterranean spot can be—don’t expect a jungle), and the view from the top of the cliff of the whole bay, rock formations, and boats on such clear water that they seem to float is breathtaking.

From the top: 1 - view on the bay from the cliff and one of the very rare moments when you can see me without the beard, 2- "floating" on a crystal clear water boats, 3- view at the beach

The beach has changing rooms, bathrooms, showers, sunbeds to rent, lifeguards, and one restaurant where you can get a hot meal, buy something to drink, or get an ice cream. The water is warmer than in more open spots, shallow, super clear, and perfect for swimming or water sports (right on the beach, there’s a company that rents scooters and offers other water sport fun).
Konnos is much less crowded than Nissi Beach, but still, if you come in the evening, you might want to bring your own beach towel, as often all the sunbeds are already taken. Also, take good sunscreen—besides the sunbed umbrellas, there’s no real shade here.
The place is very safe (you can leave your phone and go to the restaurant on the other side of the beach, and no one will touch it), family-friendly, and LGBT-friendly. It’s perfect for snorkeling, swimming, or just relaxing on a big floaty mattress. Honestly, the fact that Cyprus has such wonderful gems on the coast was the only reason I didn’t leave my not-so-great job much earlier. Konnos makes you addicted, so watch out. The first taste of the perfect beach is free, but the rest might cost you a longer stay on the island.
