Eating with the extended family with typical Acehnese soup side dishes

Today is one of the most memorable and warm moments, because our extended family gathered and ate together at home. This kind of atmosphere is indeed rare, especially with the busyness of each family member. So when the opportunity to gather came, we made the most of it, full of jokes, laughter and of course delicious specialties.

The menu served today is kuah pliek, a typical Acehnese dish rich in flavor and aroma of spices. Cooked with love by the mother and sisters, kuah pliek is served with savory fried salted fish, and warm white rice steaming from the pan. A simple yet special combination, especially enjoyed with family in an atmosphere full of togetherness.

The house seemed full, filled with the sounds of family chatter and laughter. Children were running around, parents were sitting greeting each other and the atmosphere was really lively. Because the living room was already filled with families sitting cross-legged enjoying their meals, some of us also moved to the hut behind the house. This simple hut became a comfortable and cool place to eat, with the afternoon breeze making the atmosphere even more pleasant.

We ate while telling each other stories, reminiscing about childhood, sharing news and of course enjoying every bite served. Food tastes much more delicious when eaten with loved ones. There is no awkwardness, no differences and only gratitude for still being given the opportunity to sit together in one room, enjoying the pleasure of friendship and food made with sincerity.

This moment of eating together is a bond that strengthens the bonds of brotherhood. In the midst of simplicity, we find true happiness, with family, in a peaceful atmosphere, full of warmth and gratitude. May togetherness like this continue to be maintained, as a reminder that in a family, there is always a place to come home to, tell stories and share feelings.
