Magpie encounter in my backyard

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 months ago

As I was walking out to my shed to print some tshirts. This magpie walked straight up to me. Which caught me off guard at first.

Now here in Australia this here is what we are scared of haha. You hear about all these stories from overseas that everything in Australia wants to kill you like snakes and spiders. But if you talk to an Aussie they will all say that magpies are the number one thing we all fear the most.

During spring time here in Australia it's nesting season for these birds and the are VERY territorial! They will swoop out of trees tops or powerlines and peck you with their huge beaks if you come in a 50 meter radius of their nest.

They are absolute jerks during Spring!

So most walks through a local park is out of the question during their nesting season. Unless you want to be bombarded from above.
And if you ride a push bike here you will see people tie zip ties to their helmets to try and deter the magpies from attacking.

They often go for your eyes like in the first 30 seconds in this video here.

And some random magpie attacks here 😂

So I was very grateful that this magpie didn't choose violence when he woke up this morning. And came to say hello.

I watched him pick a grub out of the grass for breakfast. Then he came closer for a better look at me.

So I had to get my phone out to snap these shots as this was the first time a magpie had been this friendly to me.

And it's always good to have these magpies on our good side come spring time.

They really are a beautiful bird when they are not trying to peck your eyes out. And the way they sing to each other is amazing!

Oh my gaaawd - what A*holes, lol!

You know, I actually love bird watching, but not mofo's like this hahaha!!! Glory - on any given day I have over a hundred birds in my garden (because I feed them) and I don't want to think about things like them poking my eyes out haha.

They look a lot like crows actually - super intelligent birds... though these magpies have a pretty wise twinkle in their eyes too. A little creepy looking too though... like Crowley vibes man haha! Ok, I am just letting my imagination run away with me now... I should stop!

As much as I love birds, I have come to accept that I think I am actually scared of them, despite enjoying having them around. If one of them touches me I will scream to high heaven and run... like RUN! so I likely would not deal well with these fellows!

I have been educated. Keep glasses on at all times in Australia LOL.

Haha yeah these magpies are no good to be around in spring time.
I have been swooped numerous times especially when i was young walking or riding my bike to school.
It was traumatizing as a child lol

But they are very clever and beautiful bird. And this one was very friendly which was great 😃

Crazy nature. lol :)

Something that beautiful can cause such harm.
