The Screen Addict Recommends – American Vandal

One of the more interesting (sub) genres that split off from the basic 13 – or thereabouts, depending on whom you ask – is the Mockumentary.

Gaining momentum in The Eighties and Nineties with 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗽! (𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟰) and the films of Spinal Tap alumnus Christopher Guest, the “Faux Documentary” has never really left the media landscape.

Ricky Gervais very successfully translated the concept from film to television with 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲, and just the other day I stumbled across 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹 on Netflix.

Not quite on the level of genius as David Brent’s shenanigans, but the show smartly combines the Mockumentary approach with a True-Crime angle.
