RE: Memory's Vault: Being a "Boring Kid" and What Thereof Follows

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 years ago

I see there might be a bit of contradiction in you comparing your 'boring' attitude with uncompromised thinking (if I understood your text). Certainly you were not following the crowd (other crazy teenagers), but they were at the time more out of the box (acting crazy) than you (doing the sensible thing). But in another sense, they were acting their age, and you were not so much... There is a bit of ambiguity in it all.
With me, I wasn't called 'boring', but 'weird' by some part of society. As I was brought up in a hippy ambient, when I mixed up with 'normal' society, I would some times be perceived as weird. As a child that affected me a bit sometimes, but didn't play out any trauma in my life.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

I was often told that I was "born old," or at the very least born "thinking like an adult." Even when I was one, myself, teenagers made NO sense to me. Yes, it's all a bit ambiguous!

I know that expression "born old" too well myself! My mother has said that to me all my life, but not only her but so many others. I can totally relate to that. I was never into the "cool party life" of Ibiza and I then made other friends who felt like me. I was lucky to come across this quirky group of friends who gathered to read philosophy and psychology books. I was still in high school and couldn´t wait to leave that "society" .... I just keep doing what feels right to me and not what society requires necessarily, specially during these confusing corona times!
