Chaga Hunters in the Snow ❄️ 🇨🇦
Lots of fresh snow.
Definitely needed the snow shoes today as we hunted for Chaga to make some Chaga Tea.
What do you think ?
Chaga :
Inonotus obliquus, commonly called chaga (a Latinisation of the Russian word чага), is a fungus in the family Hymenochaetaceae. It is parasitic on birch and other trees. The sterile conk is irregularly formed and resembles burnt charcoal. It is not the fruiting body of the fungus, but a sclerotium or mass of mycelium, mostly black because of a great amount of melanin.
Some people consider chaga medicinal.
Inonotus obliquus is found most commonly in the Circumboreal Region of the Northern Hemisphere, where it is distributed in birch forests.
The name chaga (/ˈtʃɑːɡə/) comes from the Russian name of the fungus, чага, čaga, which in turn is borrowed from the word for "mushroom" in Komi, тшак, tšak, the language of the indigenous peoples in the Kama River Basin, west of the Ural Mountains. It is also known as the clinker polypore, cinder conk, black mass and birch canker polypore. In England and officially in Canada, it is known as the sterile conk trunk rot of birch.

Today I also met Chaga in the forest and at your place))
Awesome. Did you collect some and make some Tea ? ☕️ 🫖
I already have a stock, I collected it in the fall, crushed it and dried it. Now I drink a little, but I don't brew it like tea. The water temperature is not higher than + 50 C and I insist for a day.
Awesome photos @offgridlife. I just want to jump in that soft snow…lol. And I didn't know what chaga was before I read this post :)
Yes, we LOVE the snow up here. We take saunas and roll in it. There is nothing like it … followed up with a scotch. And another sauna… then a nap by the fire.
