The empty fairgrounds,
Only the full moon’s glare
Whitens and brightens
The streets of the fair
In the half-open night.

Only the pale moon
Whitens and brightens
The barren scene
With an empty sheen
Of distant delight.
Drunken, it gleams
As though on sands’ streams
In the streets of the fair,
The empty fairgrounds,
In the night already
Half-shadowed and steady.
The moon stumbles low
Through the fairground rows,
Deserted and slow...
