THE ORIGINAL POEM
Original is the poet who originates himself,
who in one syllable is an arrow,
in another, awe or cataclysm,
who throws himself into the poem
as if into an abyss
and makes a child with words
in the bed of romanticism.
Original is the poet
capable of writing in tremors.
Original is the poet
of clear and common origin,
who, belonging to everywhere,
belongs to no single place.
The one who generates art itself
through the strength of being
one alone,
for all whom fate makes
devour in fasting.
Original is the poet
who, of all, is but one.

Original is the poet
expelled from paradise
for understanding
what weeping and laughter are;
the one who goes down to the street,
drinks glasses, cracks nuts,
and strikes those with good sense
with white-hot, ferocious verses.
Original is the poet
who’s a cat with seven voices.

Original is the poet
who dares to the shamelessness
of writing every day
as if making love.
The one who strips poetry
as if she were a woman
and impregnates her with the joy
of being just any man.
