When sorrow weighs me down,
When I feel hard pains,
Only your eyes can console me,
Dark beads of love’s refrains.

From them only love springs forth;
No shadows of irony lie;
Those seductive eyes, of worth,
Are two Ave Marias, nigh.

But if anger clouds their view,
They bring me torturous pains,
And all the beads I must rue,
In a rosary of strains.

Or if affliction floods them,
I ask for your joys
In a fervent prayer
That I recite every day!
