RE: What Have We Become?

You should be! (angry)

When I was young, military service in my country was obligatory.
The army picked my university degree and harnessed it so somehow I ended that obligatory service as a lieutenant. (that's middle-ranking officers here)

The reason I share this is as I have military degree once I completed this I didn't want to have anything more to do with army. Or war. Or everything related.

However, I am entitled to criticize ;)

Some will say it is necessary to own weapons, strictly for defensive purposes.
I don't agree, as weapon manufacturing around the world is getting out of control and out of hand. It is too much. The most of the countries in Europe are now practically forced to increase dramatically the military budget.
This appears to be the most profitable business and piling more and more weapons and ammo always leads to something worse.

As my country is the poorest in EU, it will inevitable become the backyard for manufacturing the dirtiest parts and components.
Not sure why I use future tense here, though... it's already a fact.

The optimist, living in me, wants all the wars to stop permanently, the realist, though, says it isn't possible as that business just needs more blood and hatred to continue to thrive.

All roots of evil are power and money...

Now, time to send you good vibes! Stay safe!

And to think I believed I was the only one feeling this way. The news lately has been weighing heavily on me—reports about who owns what kind of missile, which country is testing which weapon. It’s unsettling. Every announcement of a new arms acquisition feels like a step closer to catastrophe. Are we really advancing, or are we simply inching toward our own destruction?

But then again, how else will the world’s most profitable and dangerous business—the arms industry—sustain itself? War, fear, and weapons are its fuel. Peace isn’t profitable, after all.

And what exactly is the endgame of all this territorial conquest? How much land is enough? This obsession with power, the addiction to dominance—it’s terrifying. How do these people sleep at night, knowing they have the blood of countless innocents on their hands?

Every nation has its own set of internal struggles—poverty, education, healthcare, justice. If only governments would focus on fixing those, maybe the world wouldn’t be in this constant state of unrest. Why the constant urge to meddle in others’ affairs? Why not just look inward and heal what's broken at home first?

Unfortunately I believe we are racing towards self-destruction.

I feel partly guilty about all that happens. While "regular" people do nothing and mostly complain on social networks, psychopaths or let's say, people who are never satisfied nor happy, or just have psychological issues, run countries and armies to imaginary goals.

Why the constant urge to meddle in others’ affairs? Why not just look inward and heal what's broken at home first?

I can tell that governments (and presidents, where they are the main authority) are, in general, impotent to resolve the most important issues. Perhaps that's why they search for external enemy to divert the attention, until they find such one. Sad to draw that conclusion, but it seems like every means to stay in power...

Not "perhaps", most "definitely"!

The person behind this "false flag" operation has been in power for over a decade and will go to any lengths to stay there. It's a pity. He's used such tactics before — only a psychopath would resort to this.

This may sound political, though it's not my intent — it's simply the reality. When someone clings to power for over a decade and employs questionable tactics to maintain control, it raises serious concerns. History has seen such strategies before, often driven by desperation or obsession, not governance.

Sometimes I think the only brakes stopping democratically elected leaders becoming dictators are the finite number of mandates... 😎🤣

Obviously power corrupts everyone with time...

Actually, the EU is without weapons and it takes at least 15 years to replace what we gave away. Let that info sink. For sure you know what that means. I assume that if there will be a day you have to defend yourself perhaps sticks and stones are left. No way you can do it with words but of course you can also give up on your culture, and simply adapt whomever conquors since in the end it's all the same.

Well, I live not so far away from one of the biggest ranges in the country and just until a couple of years ago I could here the artillery trainings once an year. Since the RU-UA war started, I hear them very often. Not sure where you get that info from, but I am sure EU has weapons. Far from enough, that is out of question, but then, how much is enough?

I hope we don't have to use sticks and stones but if anyone pushes any of those red nuclear buttons, we will be forced then. Too bad this seems more and more probable lately.

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe, est. 681, we've been occupied for 2 centuries by Byzantines, then for five centuries by the Ottomans and then for 45 years by the communist (some of them still rule but with money instead of ideology), so we have some experience. Those centuries had put breaks in the development of the country, though, one of the reasons we are one of the poorest countries in EU. How a common Bulgarian thinks is quite different from how the Westerners think.

One example to illustrate the mindset - 85% of the population owns a property and the most just keep their money in the banks, no interest rates and monthly fees. I bet less than 1% have stocks and/or crypto :)
