Fruits of Love

When we first arrived here there it was pretty obvious that whoever started this garden was a keen gardening enthusiast as there were a lot of trees and bushes which were clearly planted with intent. A lemin tree, guava tree, appropriate border bushes and so on. In the middle of what was once obviously a lovely garden bed to the left of the garden was a pretty well established olive tree.

I actually did not even discover it until we had been living here for about two weeks as everything was so incredibly neglected and overgrown and it was hidden right in the middle of a whole lot of chaos. It has been a couple of years now and no shortage of trial and error in this garden so far, as the weather conditions out here are pretty brutal and the soil is harsh like I have never experienced.

There are actually quite a few olive trees dotted around the borderline walls of the garden - most of which I have also only discovered as I have gone along because they have only begun to show themselves since the garden started getting watered and fed on a regular basis… but apparently these other ones are a “wild olive”.

I am no expert, but I have read that essentially there is no real difference other than the fact that the wild olives remain bitter and rather unpleasant to eat… hence you don’t - but I am not so sure, because the structure of the trees themselves are entirely different. The traditional olive having a straight trunk like base and the wild ones being a lot more “bush like” with quite branches bases. Perhaps you know?

I don’t get anywhere NEAR as much time in my garden as I would like, but I do give it every bit of love that I can with the handful of time I have available… and I have been waiting so, very, very “impatiently” for this day haha! I did see the little olives popping up here and there, but was not sure whether they would survive with all our wind and then the ridiculous amount of wild birds we have here - but I was super thrilled to take these photos this afternoon as I took a meander around my little green space!

I know the tree still has a lot more to give and it is only just now starting to really show some true life, after so many years of neglect… but I am just ecstatic! It’s the little things… and this little thing makes my heart so happy!
